Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Just letting people know, I saw a new looking ffx county cop car....I think it was a FORD Fiesta. It looked small and goofy. I think that is what is going to replace those horrible crown vics and impalas. Can anyone confirm?
Could you please post a picture next time you come across one of these new vehicles? It would be a great benefit for everyone to know exactly what to look for next time your on the road. Fucking cops get too much of our hard earned money for petty tickets.
Fairfax County is going to the new Ford Police Interceptor, which is based on the Taurus. Not many out yet, you'll probably start seeing more mid-summer (sorry no pics yet).
by God this is Fairfax County. One of the richest locales in the whole U.S.A. I think they desrve to drive Mercedes Benz's. But only if they have snapshot installed.

agreed. actually I think they should each get Camero's.. Like in Hawaii Five-0. scratch that.. Just the detectives and up... b/c they are less likely to get their damaged than a patrol officer.
They have a ton of them parked over off Jermantown rd in that county depot. Not like every cop car is in great shape and they need a few more thousand. The mclean police staition must have 70 cruisers sitting and collect dust. Waste of money.

As does the Sully District substation.

I've often wondered about that - certainly doesn't SEEM cost-effective but, not being all that interested in Fairfax financial affairs, I've never looked into whether they actually USE those surplus cars or if they get them simply because they're budgeted by a naive board and the police don't want a "use it or lose it" budgeting clause to take effect.
Each station has 3 shifts plus some other units. Each station has enough cars for 3 shifts worth of officers. So lets see....if each shift has 10 officers working that's 30 cars. Add a few extra for officers not working and spares for when cars break down. Then add the other unit cars and you get about 60 to 70 cars, SUVs, trucks, etc at each station give or take a few. At any one time, 4 to 8 of these are out for repairs at each station.
So I highly doubt you have ever seen 70 cars parked at one station. You may see a lot of cars parked when only one shift is working but that is a few hours here and there and its not 70.
And NO you can not run cars non stop 24 hours 7 days a week. Well you could but they wear out even faster.
I spotted a brand new fairfax county Taurus earlier today near the walmart on route 1 and kings highway. it didnt look half bad, better than the plain ol crown vic. I still say f' em though.

Just the high-ranking motherfuckers. They have to be able to respond in seconds to any emergency 24/7. Only trouble is, they live in fucking West Virginia, Front Royal, Southern Md, you name a faraway place.
What it really is: let the taxpayer pay for their ridiculous commutes.

At the very least they should pay for the gas or a good part of it. This is a huge perk. If they dont think they should pay a portion then turn the car in.

Taking the cop cars home actually saves the county money and makes for a better deployed force. Plenty of county plumbers, hvac and alarm guys take their vans home too and it saves the county lots of money.

Bullshit. If They lived in or near the County I might buy that. But there is no way in hell that driving a 10 mpg SUV to West Virginia and back everyday saves the County money.
I live near Woodson HS where at least 100 County trades vehicles park every night. Same thing at Sideburn Support Center. If "plenty" of them are driven home by trades guys (which I don't believe), Many, many more are not.
Not the County, but interestingly, George Mason Univerity vans are driven home to the boonies by trades guys. This is because State pay is sooooo low that it's not worth it for those workers to commute all the way to GMU on their own dime. They wouldn't net any money at all.

I dont see how with the huge number of miles they pile up on the cars and the cost of gas. I also dont see how somebody could be that important who lives over a hundred miles away. If anything were to break it would have to wait a few hours until whoever lives that far away could get close to do anything. This area has mutual aid where the police can ask for help from neighboring jurisdictions at anytime. Just a nice perk worked out between county high ups.

They probably do use them though Im sure they have some excess. If you want to see a real waste of money check out the Mason Police who all have the new Dodge Chargers.
