Will there Be School Tomorrow 02/28? Way to Cold for Fairfax School Buses to Work.

It's going to get down to 15 degrees tonight. That's way to cold for FCPS school buses to work.

FCPS should just cancel school now. There should be a standard rule that when the temperature in Fairfax county drops below 35 degrees all schools are closed.

I'm waiting to see the Boards report on what happened during January with the buses. Completely ridiculus that half the buses couldn't start in 20 degree weather.

Diesel engines, especially older ones with lots of miles on them and lots of idling won't start properly every cold season unless the entire ignition system is replaced yearly. You people who keep ranting about the busses don't understand the first thing about them, so you should shut up. FYI most of the other counties in the area closed those same days.

They keep lowering the temperature forecast.

It's not just the buses that are an issue. When it's ten degrees outside, kids with insufficient winter clothing could get hypothermia or frostbite.

Putting kids outdoors at those temperatures is cruel and unusual punishment.

Maybe it doesnt matter. From teachers I know, they dont learn anything when they are in school so staying home is no different. At least with the schools closed we can save a few bucks on lights and food.

No, I don't think FCPS should close school due to the cold weather. I think FCPS should close due to the low morale of students at Woodson High School over the death of Jack Chen.

Buses run on gasoline, not heat. The temperatuer of the weather will not affect the running status of the busses. Nice try. SChool will be meeting ONTIME!!!!

The low temperature tonight is supposed to be be around 8 degrees. Add in the 20 mph winds and you have a wind chill of minus 12. The last time that schools were closed for cold it was only 2 degrees with virtually no wind.

Common sense would tell you that the FCPS would cancel school. They don't dare after all the crap they took last time.

This is true, FCPS will remain open due to bravado. Unreal.
