Why is it that when ever somebody from El Salvador or Honduras moves into my single family home neighborhood, they always bring between 10-15 cars from the 1990s along with them?

Are they car collectors? Do they all collect cars from the 1990s?

Maybe because

1) their jobs pay under the table/cash
2) they have no credit since they do not have an SSN/Tax id # for being illegal
3) no bank will give them financing due to improvable income and residency
4) no car insurance either- and if they can get tags on it it is under a relative's name who is legal.

In conclusion- they cannot finance a new car, so buy old cheap ones. In case they wreck it/it gets stolen/police catch up with them and it gets impounded- no big loss they only lost a $1000 POS and can go right back out and buy a new one and repeat endlessly.

Even if they DO manage to get financing from the shadier buy here pay here lots- it would get repo'd quick if they miss a month or 2 of work somehow so most don't bother to finance a car and keep running through old ones.

You can't find a decent running car anymore for less than $3k, even on craigslist; for that price point all one can get is a 1990's or MAYBE a rare 2000- 2002. It breaks down, they junk it and buy a new one.

Blame cash for clunkers and the government wanting to put everyone in the newer cars that all have some type of tracking system on them. This is part of it too, they do not wish to be tracked. Most newer cars with bluetooth, etc have tracking.

I understand 1-2 extra cars.
But 10-15 cars?
Something strange is going on.
They are definitely up to something.

It usually multiple, non-related, low income residents each with their own car. They turn every room possible (living room, den, etc) into a bedroom. The ordinances have been updated over the years to include limits on the number of non related people in the same house and limits on which rooms can be used as bedrooms. The tricky part is enforcing them.

Obviously, they let their friends/extended family move in and probably have 10-15 people staying at the house.

I have never seen any house with 15 cars unless they are having a party. Normally they have 4 - 6 cars which is still too many.
