Anthony Bourdain's suicide, dead at 61
Posted by: MomKind ()
Date: June 08, 2018 08:44AM

Anthony Bourdain dead at 61, suicide. Let us be kinder to one another, stop vicious (and untrue) gossip and destroying people (and ourselves), teach our kids compassion and empathy, reach out to a lonely, continue to ignore the meanie-moms. I listen to toxic people talk about other people - instead reach out to the better people who talk about other things besides other people. You never know the pain that someone else is experiencing.

His pain was realizing Trump really is the President.

You have look at the wife and anyone in his will. Seemed happy and was rich and had everything. Something stinks here. My guess is he was strangled and then hung by some hitman in France paid by the wife.

Lets hope the French didn't fuck up the "crime or suicide scene". Pictures, fingerprints, forensics, etc all need to be analyzed. Was it self inflicted asphisxiation or was he strangled and then made it look like a hanging. Also were there any changes to his will or other financial transactions which may have motivated his Italian wife or girlfriend.

Not saying I like Roseanne. I'm saying her show had very high ratings, and there is an obvious double standard when you compare what happened to her to Bourdain, or Samantha Bee, or plenty of other people .
I've never watched Roseanne's show, or care for her one way or the other.

He had an 11 year old daughter. How can you do something like that to your kid? You've got a great job that you say you love. You get to travel all over the world. You've got plenty of money. You don't even have to work anymore if you don't want to. What is so bad in your life that you do something so selfish like this to your 11 year old kid?

Drug addict? You're rich. Go off to some island resort and get treatment. You were abused as a child? I'm sorry about that. I really am. That's awful and I'm sorry that happened to you. Now you have a child of your own and she needs you. Do what you need to do to keep living for your child. Now she has to live with this.

Maybe he had some kind of fatal disease, like Robin Williams. It's just so hard for me to understand why someone would do something like this when they have young children.

When someone is fired in the entertainment world, that's a business decision. When an actor expresses an opinion publicly, their employers must always consider if what that person said is going to bring more viewers to the show, or less viewers to the show...and by extension more advertising revenue or less advertising revenue. We must always remember that television exists to sell advertising.

Roseanne 2.0 was one of the top rated shows in the United States before it's star made some racially inappropriate remarks. The star was then fired and the show cancelled because the business decision was made that viewership would plummet and so would advertising revenues. Look at all the bullshit Howard Stern said and did.

The people who decided to cancel Roseanne were not the same people who allowed Bourdain to remain on their air after threatening to kill Trump. In Bourdain's case, while his remarks were completely offensive and felonious...his employers made a business decision to let it go.

Again, we're comparing the profile of Roseanne, a highly-rated show on a major network versus Bourdain's show(s) which are niche-interest shows on niche-networks.

To Wally, above-

Asking how "someone could commit suicide?"

You need to understand one of the fundamental drives of all living things is a STRONG desire for self preservation.

In healthy animals, it is, in fact, the strongest desire, guiding ALL other desires...the desire to wake up, eat, avoid pain, etc.

So clearly, when a living thing violates this instinct, clearly they are not acting within a "normal" or logical spectrum.

So, to ask a question like that is pretty silly, if in fact you are looking for an answer.

Indeed. Excellent post. Logic doesn't enter into it at that point.

My brother committed suicide almost ten years ago. His sons were 6 and 2. No drugs, marriage/financial problems, illness, nothing we could ever find. He left no note. He had no history of mental illness. My question was not silly to ask.

Well, then, what kind of answer are you looking for?

Because he was just messing around?

Because he was angry?

Because he wanted to show his family something?

Because he was being silly?

Because he was hungry?

Obviously, whoever could so seriously violate one of nature's fundamental drives, the aforementioned self-preservation drive, is not thinking "normally", that is, within a thought pattern consistent to self preservation and so, I don't know that any answer to "how could he have done it" would make much sense to those who do operate within that self preservation thought pattern.

It might be compared to going ballistic.

OK, I'd agree that "silly" is a needlessly normative word. "Meaningless", however, is probably appropriate. Perfectly human to want to ask it, but presumably you do so knowing that there's no answer. Sorry.

Tony's girlfriend was caught by paparazzi cheating on him, and posted online by tabloids.

Women don't realize how much their betrayal and cheating affects guys.

Then she tries to fluff it off by saying they had an open relationship. Sure, then why would Tony disappear from online social media after it was posted, and then commit suicide.

When you see your girlfriend all huggy and affectionate with a younger man, it can drive a sane person to do extreme things. Asia Argento was definitely a big part of, or THE entire reason he was driven to suicide.
