All three of my millennial kids had jobs by the time they were 12. One was running his own business while in high school. They all graduated from college, one with an engineering degree, one with a business degree and one with a liberal arts degree in poly sci and psychology. All three got jobs, the first two while in school, The third got hired weeks after graduation by the company he'd worked for in college. They are all three living on their own. And two of them hold themselves out as liberal democrats.

Not everyone is cut out to wear the uniform. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not. I have a great respect for all who serve but I knew from the day I graduated high school I wasn’t cut out for that.

I’m usually amazed by the younger millennial folks in my family, they seem much more studious and serious about their future than we were back in the 80s. All me and my friends cared about was drinking beer, smoking pot, and getting laid. The younger kids I see today seem more focused on education and a career path, more socially aware, and more likely to get involved in volunteer work and internships to further themselves. Us, we were hanging out in the garage doing bong hits and listening to music.
So whenever I hear an old person bitch about ‘millenials’, I often suspect it’s really because they see a younger generation outshining them. They want young people to be just like they were, making the same mistakes they made and suffering the same consequences. While these younger kids seem better equipped to avoid it.
