I think your see the witch hunt then. I can’t for the life of me imagine at coach doing a public fundraiser with the team where the money goes directly to the school from a public fundraising vendor being fraudulent. What is he going to do, ask the school to give him the money they received from the fundraiser and they actually give it to him. Some of this actually has to make sense not just negative narrative and hope that somebody runs with it. The article even said they collected money for XYZ items for the players, so what happens when the players actually receive those items they paid for. Do we go apologize to that coach? I’d challenge anybody to go to a random school and just ask their AD or coach how do they pay for the extra items their kids have not paid for by the school. I’m 100% sure fundraising or collecting funds is the first thing out thier mouth.

People are reaching with the fundraising concern. Nobody is silly enough to do a public fundraiser and use the money for personal reason. My man literally brought an entirely new roster to a public school. If he got 30 families to move to Alexandria then more power to him! Please note, it’s more than just providing an address. Per VHSL and FCPS rules, families have to show proof that they vacated their previous address as well.

So with 30+ transfers I wonder why we are only hearing allegations from parents why are the staff and students not complaining. I’m certain such an influx of kids has drastically changed class sizes? My kid says he knows of 7 kids and that they stay together and to themselves but seem to be cool kids. He even told me about 1 freedom kid stopping a Hayfield kid from bullying another hayfield kid in the locker room. My son also says that the coaches coach hard but it’s making him better and that the freedom kids help them in areas they may need help in with out the coaches telling them to. I will admit I was afraid because I don’t want my kid to be benched. My son is on a group college visit right now. Because of the new Dline coach. All I’m saying is if you don’t know it to be a fact running with that whole negative narrative it going to affect not just the new players but the old ones as well. Because it’s the TEAM who is going to suffer. Fundraising is not the issue. Raise as much $ as you want. It’s the collecting of cash and using a personal cashapp outside of the booster club/athletic office. Is the booster club issuing receipts? Is the booster club/school aware this money is being collected and the amount? People think the booster clubs are fine tuned machines with banking level procedures and audit checks. They’re not. Most of the time it’s amateur hour. Then making purchases, are county procedures being followed? Bids being received? Doesn’t Overton have his own apparel connects? All can be shady/gray areas if not done properly. This is where people get into trouble and get fired.

Yes they are, but according to some it’s justified because the minor’s mother attacked him first…

I’m not sure how it works in Fairfax but in Loudoun, it wouldn’t be wise to release information to the press during an active investigation.

Fcps must investigate these kids of transfers/move ins in order to protect taxpayers. It costs over $19,000/student each year to educate someone in Fcps. If they do not run these issues down they will be paying for hundreds of PWC, DC, and AC students education without corresponding tax dollars. It’s too bad adults don’t follow the law/rules. Puts these kids in awful situations.

I've been around Fairfax county football my whole life, recruiting has been a issue all along, but switching schools and bringing a different roster over like its college football is a issue. THere is no open enrollment in fairfax, coach Overton is a god damn thug breaking the rules just like all his players! this would be a different conversation if rules werent in ffx, but they are!

The first article was written by a total amateur and one could tell.

However, these last two stories have brought in a professional journalist formerly on staff at the Wall Street Journal. Nomani is a superstar, I don't think she would have latched onto this story if there was nothing there. These last two pieces have kicked things up a big notch. I hope they can dig out what really happened that forced him out of Freedom. Clearly he was ousted. And there had to be a reason.

100k is likely the salary. McDonald shift managers in large metros make 170k a year. Six figure salaries are not limited to starched collar professionals. In fact all the laid off tech workers are making zero dollars and watching Midjourney AI visualization tutorials on Youtube.

The Hayfield situation is pretty easy to solve. Investigate the transfers living situations. If they aren’t living in Hayfield’s boundary they should be deemed ineligible and unenrolled. If FCPS employees were involved in covering this up or assisting in the lies they should be fired. If the transfers are proven to be residing within Hayfield’s boundaries they should be allowed to play. Kids transfer all the time. As long as it’s a legit move and not fraudulent documentation they should be in the clear. As far as the bullying and social media posts that’s for FCPS HR to decide. I’m sure they’ve run into this issue before with other employees and the precedent is already set. If Coach Overton is found guilty he should be treated the same way as previous employees.

Hayfield’s new coach seems to be an excellent coach. His kids love him and there’s no doubt in my mind that he works extremely hard and will do anything for his guys. With that said, some rules were probably broken and someone will need to be held accountable.

The community has lost trust with this administration and my guess is that something will be done at the level. Maybe the principal gets moved to a central office job since he appears to have a history with the coach and his region administrator.

If FCPS is truly conducting a thorough investigation, I’d imagine they uncover some address issues and those families will be held accountable. It’s hard to believe that nearly 30 families moved to the Hayfield boundary in the past 3 months. And if they are using the homeless act as a loophole then shame on them! The act is intended for real situations not for athletic reasons.

I use to live in the Hayfield community and my nephew attended Hayfield. That school is amazing and I loved my experience with them. I’m hope this black eye heals and Hayfield can “rebound” (shot out to the basketball program).
