Fritts won because he was an excellent coach. He had one impact transfer player in the seven years he was there. He won with MV-area talent.
Anyone who dismisses Fritts' accomplishments as coach is a fool. He took over the most horrible program in NoVA and instantly turned them into a respectable and competitive team.
Also, for many years MV wasn't in the National District. MV was in Conf. 13 at one point (with Lake Braddock, SoCo), then the Gunston District with T.C. and West Potomac - much larger schools - which Mount Vernon competed with consistently. MV didn't move to the National until 2021.
A fair criticism of Fritts is that he didn't adequately re-build his defensive staff after the departure of Louisville to West Potomac in 2021.
Regardless, he's the best head coach MV has had in the past 25 years. It's not even close.
