But no, don't torch any mosques. Kill 'em with kindness and Western Decadence instead.

Burning Qurans and mosques will never solve the Islam problem, it just drags us down to their level. The internet will be the straw that breaks religions back because people can voice their opinions freely, without fear of reprisal. Eventually, these people will be repeatedly humiliated and shamed to the point where they begin to question their faith. At that point, it's over.

I don't see how burning qurans solves anything. It's a book, like any Steven King horror novel. Burning a book just makes it more popular and causes the sales to go up. I wonder how many qurans these dummies bought, just so they could burn them.

I haven't done a lot of research on the subject, but that doesn't appear to be the case. While Gandhi wanted Britain to leave India and claimed not to be concerned about a Japanese occupation of India, he seemed to be more of a naive pacifist than a supporter of Tojo...

It's there. He was a supporter of Imperial Japan as well as an opponent of the war crimes trial. Probably a good man in many respects, but not the fucking martyred saint the hippies want him to be. But he "won the war", so the history is his.

I agree. It looks retarded and will be misrepresented by muslim media as some widespread and common occurence.

You're right too about the internet, but it's a double edged sword. I was really into drugs, crime and all that itchy shit growing up and had a percentage of friends become Jesus freaks as a way out. A pain in the ass they are no doubt, but far better than shooting dope everyday if you really have to choose.

I worry about the crowd 20 and 30 years younger than me who are jaded as shit from all the sex, drugs, you name it thats so more prevelant and accessible today. When these self-indulgent little fuckers decide to seek some balance, they may just go towards jihad because they'll lack the piety, discipline and structure that Islam could provide them.

Whatever the case, I think Gandhi would have found out real quick how well his pacifist tactics worked with Japanese troops the second they lopped off his head during a sitdown strike.

Drug and alcohol rehab centers, such as AA are bible based and simply replace one drug for another. "World Without End" is the drug of choice for Christians and is a VERY powerful psychotic replacement for alcohol and drugs. Both access the same area of the brain to provide a false sense of euphoria and both can cause long term brain damage.

It's difficult for a lot of people to choose the often painful side of reality over the blissful and ignorant fantasy world. There will always be those that choose the path of least resistance. Unfortunately, once you're in the fantasy world, it's really hard to escape to reality. It can be quite a shock to find that most of the world you knew was a lie or a dream.

I recently read an article that claimed that placebos have become almost as effective as some drugs. If someone believes their high than it releases chemicals into the brain to actually cause them to be high. This is exactly how religion works and why people who really believe see and hear things they presume is God.

It's the same thing with ghosts. The only people who ever see ghosts are the people that believe in them.

It's a replacement no question, but I have to argue that as kooky as it is sometimes, it's a pretty sensible alternative to some of the more serious substance and character issues. Maybe the issue shouldn't be the replacement as much as the type of replacement. If you're a crackhead who finds solace in some moderate unitarian or methodist setting, great as long as you don't get preachy. But if the beard grows out and the sandals and pajama pants go on, no sir.

As was atheistic as hell for years, I've kind of relaxed into agnosticism, because I found my preaching against just as unbearable as those preaching for. What happens when we die? I have my ideas but until I go, it's nothing but guesswork. I've come to accept that everything isn't for everybody and to live and let live as long as they do to. And frankly the hours of "Number of the Beast" I cranked probably far outwieghs the very rare times a holy roller tried to get my ear.

I've got a new girlfriend who is a Buddhist. I probably would have mocked her years ago because I always saw white kids that turn to eastern religions and mysticism as wackos. But she is really chill with it, it gets her through the day really well and she refuses to prostelitize. How can I complain?

Personally, I never preach atheism to anyone unless provoked by baseless or illogical claims from religious people. I don't think I've ever started an argument or debate just to "preach" atheism. There really isn't anything to preach. There is no guidebook or doctrine for atheism because it's simply a non-belief in the gods. However, I have had to defend my position a few times and I do have a problem with religion in civil services and taxation.

I don't really count what goes here, on in a forum like this, as preaching because the whole idea is to discuss ideas and share opinions. I actually find it enjoyable to have existential debates with people who have rational opinions and can think creatively about it.
Folks here that think I have these same debates in my non FU time would be a little surprised at how seldom atheism comes up.

Agreed, to the extent where the species, as a whole, is endangered by it.

Wish I could say the same, but it's not even close.

Buddism really isn't a religion. It's more of a psychology based on ending suffering. I've never had a problem at all with buddism. There are no gods, no claims of supremacy, it's benevolent and it's about ending suffering instead of embracing it like religions do.

My best friends are buddists and although I do give them a hard time about some of the silly stuff, it's all in fun.

"Discuss"?

Threads like this one prove the supporers of that
shitty NY city mosque are not actually supporters
of the islamic faith, but rather people who just
want to argue and take the other side of ANY issue.

The only reason I'm indifferent to the Koran burning, is because it pisses me off that we have to somehow be scared of Muslims in doing it, yet they have marches in NYC where they spit on, stomp upon, and rip our flag into pieces, and not only are they lacking fear of a reprisal due to such, but it never even makes the news!

Don't be dumb fuck. Stuff like this is exactly what Al Qaeda wants.

Burn Taliban and Al Qaeda stuff! They are the ones responsible for 9/11.

By burning the Koran they are just falling for Taliban and Al Qaeda propaganda trying to ignite a Jihad with the US.

You're such a stupid fuck, 'Lurker'.

WE are NOT 'igniting jihad' by burning books,
incase you haven't been paying attention;
THE TALIBAN and AL QAEDA HAVE ALREADY DECLARED JIHAD on the US.

So go fuck yourself, faggot.

LOL at the best oxymoron ever, "Islamic Thinkers SOciety".

My friends from Thailand have had just about enough of Islam. One of the most benevolent countries in the world is under attack by the religion of peace. As usual, they refuse to assimilate into another countries society and disrespect everything about the country that lets them stay there.

Now they're threatening to kill teachers in the southern regions and trying to become a separate Muslim state - There's a shocker!
