If they cremate him, they should "burn em' to ashes, then burn the ashes".

I could have swore he'd died a couple of years ago.

Maybe I'm psychic............damn. Wish I'd have gotten some winning lotto numbers instead.

Arthur C Clarke died in 2008. You may have been thinking about him.

Yeah.........I was.

Not many of that lot left.

Don't seem to be many replacements on the horizon either.

Unless I go back in time and let him get hit by that car.

We don't have the pulp magazine or short story sci-fi journals anymore that allow people to experiment and grow as writers. So much is riding on a first novel being a hit that publishers are scooping up derivative formulas reworked as teen fantasy (Hunger Games) that have little in common with Philip K Dick and Stanislaw Lem.

Will they cremate him at F451? Maurice Sendak died recently too. Now there was a writer that could work a pen(is) well.

We still have a few sci fi magazines like Asimovs, and there are a lot of good writers, but they are buried in the rest of pop culture now. And in Bradbury's day, sci fi was about the bright future, and now the future is starting to look like shit, so SF writers aren't superstars. The really good ones also have to live in the shadow of the pioneers like Heinlein and Clark and Bradbury.

It's not the same. You used to be able to find Omni or Analog at any grocery store/drug store magazine rack. Omni is gone and I can't recall the last time I saw a copy of Analog.

Victims of the internet? Not in the same way that the print news media is. But rather in that any good or promising writers can simply publish themselves online and then get lost in a sea of mediocrity?
