How many hours a week do you really WORK?
Posted by: corporate america ()

Here is a typical day where I used to "work"

8:00 am - walk in the building.

8:10 to 8:45 - BS with coworkers

8:45 to 9:15 - get coffee and snacks

9:15 to 9:45 - read news online, check blogs or forums

9:45 to 11:00 - work

11:00 to 11:20 - call / ask / text about where we are going to lunch today

11:20 to 11:45 - round up everyone who is going to lunch together

11:45 to 12:10 - travel to lunch destination

12:10 to 1:15 - Lunch!

1:15 to 1:40 - travel back to cubicle corral

1:40 to 2:00 - take a dump

2:00 to 3:30 - work

3:30 to 3:55 - Time for a break!

3:55 to 4:15 - wind down things at your desk

4:15 to 4:30 - wish coworkers a pleasant evening

4:30 - head home.

So thats like 15 hours a week. I am having trouble finding another job like that one. Where is the best place to look for that type of schedule?

It depends on the week. Sometimes, I'll work and effective amount of 20 to 30 hours. Other weeks, it could be 40 to 55 hours. I don't think that anyone who can truly claim that they work an honest 40 hours consistently week after week, is really truthful. All work usually requires different demands and different requirements at various times.

For those who keep it to 40 hours per week, they're most likely a clock-watcher, a bull-shitter and many other terms I can think of. They're also the people who will run out the door, on time and when their day is over, while you stay on to finish the work and correct the problem.

Low in the 20s to normal high in the 60s and on rare occasions in the 70s depending on work load. Once I go beyond that I find I am going through the motions.

your so stupid (tm, GmhB)

allot of foreigners with multiple 2 or 3 jobs ? their foreigner friends are managers. i kenw a few

they aren't even at the second job they get paid for. and if they are they are lazy mother fuckers (at the 2nd job, not necessarily all day)

--------------------------------
rediculous. some people work hard and end up loosing money even. other's are total abusive assholes, steal, and take home wads of cash.

meanwhile some (i've done it) can be at work 16 hrs threatened not to leave, get paid min. wage for 8 hr, and it's called "one job"

and it's "privacy of pay and profit" papers , and lack of legal work , that fuels it

"the rich needs bad courts" -jh

something that tends to go over peoples heads these days

things were scheduled so workers couldn't access gov or courts or banks hardly.

by the time you get off work it's all closed. on the weekend it's all closed.

they called having a 2nd job moonlighting.

at work if you used the phone you'd be fired.

if you were fired, you could be arrested for being poor.

it's called: having a smart facist who's raping and killing you.

====================

in the older world of work (still active in many work places), when "boss was king" (and at one time he was a friend of the King)

the boss laid down any rule they wanted (ie, un-constitutional) made threats. and using privacy of pay and funds: stole money, for the king pin (or King or family of).

--------------------------
if you were religious and did all the boss said you were fine

however if you were injured or simply unpopular: you were fucked hard simply for a thing that could have been worked around

what is true: is that a factory floor manager should be paid a little more than the floor workers and have worked on the floor. and should manage the floor for higher production while keeping workers happy and not using them as sausage.

that is what a good factory floor manager would do: keep a well oiled machine

I do only what needs to be done. My philosophy is; if it is not broke, don't fix it. I work don't get me wrong; but I also subscribe to the theory of 'conservation of energy."

Get a job as a high school teacher , 2 planning periods a day, if they are first and last period you sneak in at 9 and "have a doctors appointment" and leave at 1 AND only do it for 9 1/2 months a year. Try beating that.

"11:20 to 11:45 - round up everyone who is going to lunch together"

You do better than in my office. It comes down to civil war just to figure out where everyone wants to eat. Usually starts out by people saying they dont care where we go then when a place is suggested they complain saying not that place. This goes back and forth until the group breaks into smaller groups going to different places. Then of course the employees in one group bad mouth the ones in the other group.
