74th School Shooting Since Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre

The 2nd Amendment/Nut Job body count of innocent victims continues to rise.

Only a matter of time until the will of the people turns the tide into meaningful action on many fronts.

GOP Controlled House = 54+ Votes against ObamaCare and Zero votes for meaningful gun control.

Fewer people died in Benghazi, IRS, Fast-n-Furious, VA Health Care, and Bergdahl prisoner swap scandals combined - than in the 74 School Shootings since Sandy Hook.

Where is the Congressional Investigation and Special Subcommittee?

Since the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, there have been an average of 1.37 school shootings for each school week, according to data maintained by Everytown for Gun Safety, a group fighting to end gun violence.

Including Tuesday's incident at a high school in Troutdale, Oregon, 74 school shootings have taken place in the approximately 18 months since the Dec. 14, 2012, Newtown shooting. The average school year typically lasts about 180 days, which means there have been roughly 270 school days, or 54 weeks, of class since the shooting at Newtown. With 74 total incidents over that period, the nation is averaging well over a shooting per school week.

The data maintained by Everytown for Gun Safety also shows that these shootings have occurred throughout the country. In all, 31 states have had an incident of gun violence at a school. Georgia has witnessed far more incidents than others, with 10 happening at schools there since Sandy Hook. There have been seven school shootings in Florida, five in Tennessee, four in North Carolina and four in California.

The majority of the school shootings, 39, have taken place at K-12 schools. The remainder of them have happened at colleges or universities.

Not surprisingly, schools tend to be safer when they are not in session. The longest gap between school shootings appears between mid-June and mid-August of 2013, which falls during summer break, when the majority of students are not enrolled in classes. Other gaps of weeks or longer fall during periods when schools are typically on winter, spring or summer breaks.

That's OK! It is not written in stone, the gun laws need to be toughened even more in Chicago. Find a tough law that works, might take a little work, and stick with it.

I own many guns of different types and enjoy sport shooting and hunting year round.

To me, meaningful gun control is a no brainer and long overdue - especially with this many mass shootings of innocent civilians and kids at schools happening daily and/or weekly. You can yell faggot all day long but it's really quite infantile. Grow up. Things hav e gotten beyond ridiculous.

Background checks should be required for all firearms purchases from .22 cal on up - even at gun shows or for private sales.

Background checks should include a mental health screening and anyone with any history of mental, emotional, substance abuse issues should be unable to purchase a firearm or ammunition. Anyone convicted of a serious misdemeanor or felony should be unable to purchase a firearm.

A Federal Firearms Safety and Training Certification should be required for all firearms and ammunition purchases - prior to purchase.

Firearms Safety and Training re-certification should be required every 5 years.

Concealed carry permits should continue to require a separate certification and training BUT should be based on a justifiable reason to conceal carry (occupation, background, etc.)

Open Carry should be restricted to certain zones that justify Open Carry. Rural areas, farms, hunting areas, firearms training facilities, etc. They don't belong in restaurants, malls, stores, and public spaces with lots of people. All else is brandishing and should be a serious misdemeanor or felony offense that results in revocation of a persons authorization to own guns or ammunition.

...if otherwise innocent Homophobes were being blown away in weekly shootings what would happen. We know what happens when the Tea Party gets targeted by the IRS. They go apeshit and want investigations.

But innocent kids getting blown away at school really doesn't warrant an investigation.

Hate to break it to you but that's not anything particularly impressive or unusual.

Justice Dept. stats show 12,600 incidents of non-fatal firearms violence at schools for the 5 year period between 2007-2011. That's about 2,500/year. Which hasn't changed much. It's actually gotten better.

Fatal incidents also have declined over time, from an average of 29 per year in the 1990s (school year 1992-93 to 1999-00) to an average of 20 per year in the 2000s (school year 2000-01 to 2009-10).

Homicides in schools comprised less than 2% of all homicides of youth ages 5 to 18. During the 2000s, an average of about 1,600 homicides of youth ages 5 to 18 occurred per year.

They aren't random mass shootings for the most part. Most are targeted. As they've always have been. Most in that 74 that you're counting are not "mass shootings."

This is even worse than I thought. They have all kinds of crap in there.

ATLANTA -
Atlanta police say they have made one arrest and are searching for another man in the murder of a recent graduate from Morehouse College.

Joe Gibbs was shot and killed inside a car in southwest Atlanta, not far from the Morehouse campus, last Thursday. Another person in the car was also shot, but survived. Police said a third man fled on foot from the car.

Authorities said the shooting wasn't random.

"It appears that the shooting was in relation to some type of drug transaction between the victims and the suspects," said Officer John Chafee of the Atlanta Police Department.

FORT PIERCE — A female student at Indian River State College was shot and injured as a gunman and police traded fire Thursday in the parking lot of the college’s campus, a college spokeswoman said.

The student was injured as police converged on the armed man in the parking lot of the Treasure Coast Public Safety Complex on the college’s campus at 4600 Kirby Loop Road in Fort Pierce...

If you read the article, turns out that it was a pursuit where the guy happened to end up in the school parking lot.

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. -- Investigators in the East Bay say they have leads, but no suspects, yet in the murder of a 19-year-old Laney College student. Travion Foster was shot and killed just before 9 p.m. Wednesday in the field behind Hillside Elementary School.

Leon Brown, a close friend of Foster's, says Foster was a young man with a ready smile and bright future.

"This let me know that there's people out there that don't want to see young men doing great, they don't want to see young men that have something going for themselves be successful," Brown said.

Foster was shot and killed Wednesday night in the field behind San Leandro's Hillside School. The Alameda County Sheriff's Department say it appears Foster was involved in a game of dice with several others, when gunfire erupted.

This headline isn't going away any time soon.
People are taking note and keeping count.
Every day or every week, another shooting.

The female vote - mothers, sisters, daughters - is pretty powerful and they are fed up.

Only a matter of time until the meaningful gun control hammer comes down hard.

There's also a lot of female shooters, especially among the concealed carry. This whole Mothers Against Guns is being supported by Bloomberg. I wonder how the Brady Campaign feels about having the limelight having been taken away from them.

As pointed out above, this headline, like virtually all of the anti-gun nut "stats" and talking points, is complete bullshit. The entire anti-gun nut argument relies on deceptively manipulating the numbers, omitting key details, not differentiating the wide range of entirely distinct types of incidents, and emotional appeals. Which is a big part of why they've not been effective.

If you'd spend more time trying to address the real issues which underlie gun crime and violence instead of trying to disarm the people who aren't the problem by pushing for feel-good laws and restrictions which do nothing and some unicors and glitter vision of magically making guns disappear, then maybe we could make some progress.

Do any of the losers like the OP feel stupid whentheir stats are exposed as lies?

Do you all feel angry at your masters who feed you your bullshit sandwiches? Do you ever resolve to never again accept something as fact just because it is written down somewhere or repeated on the internet?

Do you wonder where the hell you have been to have missed 74 school shootings in the last 18 months?
