My gf and I were comparing spending habits the other day. One of the items we reviewed were shoes...
I spend about $500 a year on shoes and I usually buy about 3-4 pairs of shoes. Typically, a wing-tip or cap-toe, a pair of running shoes, a lightweight boot and maybe a pair of sandals or flip-flops. I buy Brands like Bostonian, Allan Edmonds, New Balance, Asics, Timberland, Red Wing, Keens or Tevas.
My gf spends about $600 and buys TWENTY-FIVE to THIRTY pair of shoes per year. She buys ALL of her shoes at Payless.
Payless' shoes are so poorly made that she can usually only wear them a few times and then a strap breaks or the heal comes unglued or the sole comes apart, etc.
She absolutely lost her shit when I suggested perhaps if she bought a higher quality shoe (not Jimmy Choos...there's nuance there) while still spending the same amount of money on shoes annually. "I'm not limiting my choices with so few shoes like that!"
So, I just shrugged and said, "Well, then stop bitching about Payless' shoes falling apart on you. You've been wearing them for YEARS and this happens every time with every pair!"
What say you Fairfax Underground...lots of cheap shoes that fall apart OR a few quality pairs that last?
