Interesting question on religious freedom
Posted by: jhfef ()

The firestorm over the religious freedom act has brought up some interesting questions.

People want to have their non-religious beliefs respected. Ok, I'm cool with that. If you want an abortion, that's cool. If you don't want to go to church, fine. If you want to make fun of God, go for it. All of these are your rights.

Why can't peoples' religious beliefs be respected? If a devout Christian is offended by homosexuality and it goes directly against their religious beliefs, why should they be subjected to homosexuals?

Why is it that we must respect non-religious people but it's not ok to respect the views of religious people?

Just to be clear, I am not religious. I am just pointing out some hypocrisy.

What's next? Will we force kosher delis to carry pork products? Will we force the Miss Black America Pageant to allow white women? Or force the Miss America Pageant to allow men who "identify" as women? Maybe we can force Al Sharpton to defend a white person?

Why pick on Christians?

Subjected to homos? Homos are all around, and Christians should respect them as humans. But I don't believe that Christians should face accusations of discrimination if we refuse to cater a gay wedding or be a preacher at one because of our beliefs. But I don't think they should be denied service at a restaurant unless they're being flamboyant. But then they should be denied for being a nuisance. Maybe get denied if they're kissing. Unless they're girls. Yeah, I know. A double standard. But that's the one double standard that goes in the ladies favor. So why not let them have it. Even watching two ugly girls kissing is better than seeing an ugly guy and ugly girl doing it. And a zillion times better than seeing any two guys. That would make me lose my appetite and want to leave. Not good for business.

I'm not Christian and I still hate homo activists (not necessarily all homos).

Nobody should be forced to provide services that are contrary to their validly held beliefs religious or otherwise. Libs and gays have no problem imposing their own restrictions the actions of others where it's activities that they don't support.

So, in conclusion, I'll cater your wedding if I can open carry a gun. ;)

There is a war on Christianity raging world wide. You want to know why? Read the bible. Yes, this is stupid. Anybody that knows anything knows Christians are accepting and tolerant of everyone.

I think Christianity is a goal and a lot of people aren't there yet. You can't go to church and say you are a Christian. Christianity is something you pray to attain and it's a very much selfconscious act sometimes.

As stated elsewhere, there also seems to be constitutional protections for the pursuit of happiness, freedom, etc...

So, can someone pursue their happiness, or choose to protect their perception of overall freedom by not serving ANYBODY they choose to not serve?

Why not?

Why does any freedom that is religion based trump or take precedence over a freedom that is not religion based?

Because...the world would not work otherwise...for so many reasons.

Should people that believe in a 2000 year old book, or 2000 year old people they've never met, have more "freedoms" than those afforded to ALL people in the constitution?

I disagree. Being a christian should mean that your working toward that goal. And nobody reaches the 'perfect christian' status.

So atheists could refuse to serve Christians? I wish there was a town with one gas station and one cable provider and both were Atheist owned and refused to serve Christians. That would be cool.

No it isn't cool. It's persecution. Christians have been persecuted since the day He rose. Yet we are able to forgive them for their persecutions. Unlike the gays, who berate Indiana and threaten people with boycotts.

And that would be fine. See, libturdz can't understand that. It's called tolerance.

Except you dumbass rednecks want to extend that to actual constitutional rights. For instance, you'd be ok with a housing situation where one is denied rental or purchase because they are gay. Hey the seller is christian and doesn't want his place filled with gay right? Except the federal discrimination laws say you can't deny based on those elements.

Or how about taxes, married status for straight people but not gay people. That is two sets of laws, two sets of tax codes, and discriminates.

Or how about adoption, two sets of laws.

Or how about death rights for gay people, two sets of laws.

Or how about estate settlements, two sets of laws.

So stop giving lip service about the constitution you stupid dbags, and give all people the same fuckin rights. Or move to Pakistan and live with the taliban, you guys share the same beliefs.

Not only is this plain wrong morally, but supporting discrimination against people for whatever reason sets dangerous precedent that could end up effecting you in the end. Golden rule dumbfucks.
