I've been feeling this song in a really bad way, lately...

The chorus is just so-so... but the fucking verses bring tears to my eyes...

Can't get enough of this at the moment..

Ok... this is the classic starting point for all of our arguments...

You're nature... I'm nurture...

You think your fate is sealed... I think that as long as you're still thinking, you can change your reality...

You think you're so unique and that no one can "get" you... That's so COMMON... especially among pubescent teens...

You're lettin' fear get the best of you, man...

Edit: Added "especially among pubescent teens" just to really sink my teeth into you...

there are rich men, and there aer poor men. I'm a poor man. I dont' get to east steak every night of lmy life. I have to seltlle for froazen chickeno strips. Fine.

it's toime to accept my psoitition in life; weither that, or just conitunue to torture myself. And I'm tired of that.

I'm solitary. Alone. Well then, fine. That'ls the ways its ogonaa be.

What about the "rags to riches" stories... You think those people just accepted their initial short-comings?

What about the American Dream, man?

no, not unique at all. Just poushed aside a bit. Like I saiod, there aerr plenty of me's out there, wer'e just not as visioble, and no, I don't proide myself on that. It's just a fact. I am part of a minority. No value gujudgements....that's just a fact. What I'm saying is, I'm tired of fighting againgst it.....I'm tired of hurting myslerf.....I've got to get good with the fact that certain thigns aren't in the cards for me, that's all. Plentyo of people have to do this, everyday, in all wwalks of life. Suere, you can rise above certain things, you can move up, but it's not COMMON. It does not happen for most. The fact wwe even know Bill Gates' name is proof----we can point to ONE GIUY out of hundreds of millions who 'changed his reality' and 'made something of himself'. thtat's great, but it's not common. It's so uncommon, that one of only a handufl of example we can even point to is BILL GATES himselff!! Get it? There AREN'T a million bBill Gates out there. There's one. He did great for himself, but that is not likely for most. A certain level of upward mobility is possible in a stratified society, but only so much---ONLY SO MUCH.

I get your Bill Gates example... but by "rags to riches" and "change your reality" I wasn't talking about becoming a successful business owner... or becoming well known...

I'm just talking about being able to change your world to make it more liveable... to find happiness...

If "accepting" your "short-comings" makes you truly happy, then you're the proof of my claim...

Good for you, buddy...

If it doesn't make you happy, why settle for it?

weell, that remaoins to be seen. The rpoof is in the pudding. The hope is it makes me hapopoier, at least happier than it makes me to continually hurt myserlf trying to be something I can't be..........but harryo, EVERYBODY in life settles for less.....thats not something unique to me ofro gods skaekes.......a blind man has to accept hel'll never be a pilot, a deaf man accepts hell nvever be a msuiciian (and don't bring up Beethoweven).....it happens all the itme. We accept our shorticomings in life. WHat did you really want to do in life, harryo??? I'll be you settled for something less? No foofesnse. You wouldn't be alonen/

I'm in a dark place, y'all.... Again...

These trips to the land of Cutty Black Sow are becoming more frequent...

I've always wanted to have my head examined...

But I know I'd just give the 'rapist the run-around... (hint: not Blues Traveler)...

I don't think I'd let myself benefit from it....

Plus, it costs a whole lot...

Just watched the Usual Suspects...

Pretty good flick... but I saw the ending coming...

I think it's one of those that were great for its time... but it's so good that it's been emulated over and over... to the point that it seems cliche...

Sad when an original movie becomes predictable... before I ever watched it...

I think I could've enjoyed that movie...

Kevin Spacey... what a hunk...

no kiddin', bud bud. I knew who Keyser Soze was for years before I ever watched that movie. It's one of those movies you can't watch cold. It's been talked about too much. I got the Godfathero on digital video disc. Haven't watched it-o yet. I'm afraid it won't move me.

I need something good... I'm in a rut...

Recently watched 2001: Space Odyssey... That was pretty good... Loved the visuals... District B-13 was surprisingly good... action packed, like Ong Bak in the future...

Got any good recommendations?

I don't think all old movies are like that, though... Just the ones with the gimmick...

You'd think 2001 would be one of those movies that got spoiled over the years... but it was great... It was so refreshing... and it was made before man set foot on the moon... That movie hit me on a different level... It was kind of like watching a painting come to life... slowly moving... with the repetition of song...

It was like a beautiful dream...

I don't think anyone could spoil that movie... What other movies are like that?

Ichi the Killer is so 2005. Check out Miike's other stuff first, like Chinese Mafia War, or The Bird People in China. I'm a big fan of Gozu.

Seen these ones... they were good... Freakonomics was interesting, but I felt it was lacking something... like it could've gone deeper but it was content to just scratch the surface...

You ever seen Thumbs Up!? It was a TV series I guess... I felt the same way about that... It could've done so much more... but instead of getting deep, it relied on the shock and awe technique...

you got to go the digital video disc route, ma fren. It's the only way. I saw a delightful French comedy by one of my favorite comic directors, Jacques Tati, called Trafic, the other night. NOt the best in the Mr. Hulot series, but well worth watching. You got to get it on digital video disc.

I did see that, years ago. I remember liking it.

I love this Argentinian show, Epitafios, about a cop whos' getting too old for this shit, playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with a murderous psychopath.....it's really better than it sounds.

I just bought Fyodor Dostoeyvsky's Notes From Underground. Is it a tough read? Is it the eye-opening experience I've always heard it was? Or should I just re-read The Castle by my man Franz Kafka.....

I've been meaning to finally finish The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Tough book. Expect to be confused. But worth it, so far. It puts a smile on your face.

Only K I've read was Metamorphosis... Probably should read it again..

Ever heard of Kobo Abe? He's the Japanese ying to kafka's polish yang. My favorite writer of all time. He touched me in a very special way at a certain age, and all my creative endeavors to this day are derived from his work (him, and R. Crumb). CHeck out Kobo Abe. I suggest you start with Secret Rendezvous, most people will say Woman in the Dunes, but there's something about Secret Rendezvous to me that resonates...

Secret Rendezvous is a novel. But some of Abe's other novels were made into movies: The Woman in the Dunes, THe Face of Another, and The Ruined Map. Haven't seen them in a long time, but I'd say they're well worth seeing. The director, Hiroshi Teshigahara, is widely respected in Japan.

if it's not there, check out The WInd Up Bird CHronicle by Haruki Murakami. He's kinda the spiritual successor to Kobo Abe. Very surrealistic, weird, wild stuff.

kinda good news, y;all.....the lesbionic girl DOES want tot be friends after all....she was sjust out of town for the weeekend, I guess. I know it's lame, but I really don't have ANY friends, so this might be nice. Maybe I'll meet new people through her and her friends. That's how people meet, right? I might be on to something. You never know, right?

Fun Fact: I actually ate lunch with a drunk, homeless, black man today... he asked me for money for food and I said, "Hop in!"...

I ordered him a Baconator with large fries and an iced tea... I just had the Baconator sandwich...

We ate in my car in a questionable neighborhood... He talked a lot about Jesus...

I still don't know what a money market is....
