The Mike O'Meara Show
Posted by: WashingToneLocian ()
Date: April 15, 2008 11:49AM

Did anyone else catch it yesterday? I was surprised, but it really wasn't very good. Say what you will about Don Geronimo, but the show worked when he would take a cynical slant on things. O'Meara was playing clips of Steven Wright doing Chris Rock material and Chris Rock during Steven Wright material (which, surprisingly, was painfully unfunny) and O'Meara, Rob-a and Buzz were laughing at it like it was the Jack Diamond Morning Show. I sure hope to hell O'Meara doesn't take this approach with the show, because it won't be on very long if he does.

---------------------

Wow. Just think, all these few years, and that's exactly what he did and kept doing, through multiple incarnations of his show on different formats, expecting a different result.

And still, he marches on. Stubbornly pursuing this winning formula for success. Just believing deep down in his heart that everyone will come around eventually and it will all work out just because he's Mike O'Meara and dammit, he deserves it.

I don't know which is more grating, hearing Rob(b) talk or hearing him bray with fake laughter at every painfully unfunny utterance that comes out of Mike's mouth. Both make me want to drive into a tree just to make it stop.

The show synopsis on the MOMS web are amazingly hacky and sleep inducing: It's FRIDEE! Mike has the sniffles, Ms. O'Meara wants a vacation, Robb re-visits "Green Acres" again, Buzzito has a secret and Oscar and Tanner have a new project!

Yawn. Time to turn out the lights here indeed...

does anyone else experience problems trying to llisten to the failcast. If I try listening on demand it usually kicks me off about 15-20 minutes in. If I try downloading from lff website it downloads ponderously slow and I only get about half to 3/4's of a show. I don't want to use itunes.
I go to Nick and Artie show and bam it starts playing on first click and never cuts off. I download an hour and downloads quickly and a full hour.

Does this say something about the failcast and its distribution?

Yeah I just might be beating a dead horse.

LFF and the gang dropped turkeys off the roof of LFF's run down house(bet the neighbors wish he'd sell his eyesore) and then went over to the Old Towne Sports Pub(formerly O'Meara's) and had absinthe and turducken. LFF being the obnoxius drunk got into heated discussion with one of the last rednecks still in Manassas. rob(b) squealed thru most of the show and the big Oh kept saying, "be that as it may" to avoid conflict

If you know anything about O'Meara you can figure the details, he was at a bar (surprise), someone what "hasselin' his lady", and the hassler eventually poked O'Meara in the tummy and said "I'll kick your fat ass..." at which point O'Meara and the tough guy go outside, presumeabley rumble and O'Meara falls down and blows out his knee.

The Zoo Krewe cackle and laugh, but applaud the big guy for doing a stupid thing but having 'honorable intensions' in defending his fair lady.

I could only take ten minutes of that crap. My guess is there's some legal issues pending and possibly plenty of witnesses, so El Gordito had to admit to committing a rash, stupid action.

Why oh why didn't someone have a cellphone handy - the sight of O'Meara's fat ass hitting the pavement would have generated 10,000,000 downloads in a day!!

I haven't listened to the podcast in many months, but O'Meara and krewe haven't learned a goddam thing about broadcasting, they continue to rehash the same shit that failed at JFK - the only difference is that Oscar plays the Beth Ann role - I guess, and Rob(b) won't shut the fuck up - he's far more obnoxious than he was at JFK - it's no wonder no one in DC broadcasting will touch that turd with a ten foot pole.

I'll plan to tune into the podcast same time in 2012 or 2013, don't want to push it...

no, actually that ain't what happened at all. for the past few months mike was being followed (stalked) by some biker dudes that he dissed at one of his appearances (basically told them they were losers and should get a life). they tried making his life a living hell by pranking the shit out of mike real late at night, throwing shit at his house, etc. finally mike got fed up and decided to take the law into his own hands. swore he was going to hunt down every last fucker and exact some revenge of his own. well one of the dudes came at mike with a tire iron, mike was able to bust a move and deliver a few punishing kicks of his own, knocked the guy cockeyed, and put him in a full Nelson. unfortunately mike got banged up subduing the guy, and mike finally let him to after the dude basically begged for his life. mike tole him if he ever saw his face again he'd send him & his buddies straight to hell, doubt we'll be seeing much of them again.

That story is the result of listening to ten minutes of yesterday's podcast - it's all there, start at about the ten minute mark, the interesting thing is: Why did O'Meara publicly fess us to getting into a physical altercation?

Too many witnesses? Pending legal action?

He's never publicly admitted to idiotic, drunken behavior before...

Bad luck for LFF to get smacked with a tire iron on one of the few places on his body that isn't covered with a thick protective layer of lard.

Please. That fat fuck subdued a biker with a tire iron, and got him a full Nelson. Uh-huh. That guy can barely subdue a plate of chicken fingers.

^^THIS^^ Geez I was just trying to let everyone know there was a drunken fight story on the failcast and how LFF lied. I even gave the min mark to prevent having to listen to the BS. But I'm told to write a transcript of the story???? EF THAT!! Geez listen for 10 mins won't get the Lazy fuck back on the air nor will it get his failcast to crack the top 80.

It's annoying that the cast:

A. Won't challenge Mike.

and

B. Have to reassure him at every turn.

Why do you have to say that what he did was right? They kiss up as much or more as the wrap up show hosts.

I doubt even the ECW would allow LFF to take smoke breaks in the middle of a match - which is something he'd require after about 12 seconds of wrasslin' action!!

I typed the word bleeping in < > between some and pie, and it's been automatically edited out.

So I guess I meant that Don turned her lyrics into "later we'll have some fuckin' pie and do some caroling."

I heard on 98 Rock (97.8 Baltimore) this morning that among others Kirk McEwen and Mike O'Meara will be guest hosting some upcoming show (I have no idea which or if they're doing it together). Amazing...

Maybe Kirk and Mike can do for 98 Rock what they did for The Edge.

Back when he was regarded as an asset to a legitimate broadcasting company, I'm sure they had a legal guy or two who would do damage control if something such as this occurred. These folks would be there to let LFF know what was safe to discuss publicly, or if it was advisable to do so at all. Seeing as how the failcast barely has the budget to exist, I doubt he's shelling out enough to retain a legal representative to advise him on such matters. I doubt anyone with the track record of possible copyright infringements I've observed in his media could possibly be retaining an attorney worth his salt. They would have told him to watch his ass long ago.

As read on DCRTV:

"O'Meara To Fill-In On 98 Rock - 12/1 - But wait, still more Mike O'Meara news. DCRTV hears that he'll be filling in for the vacationing Mickey Cucchiella next Wednesday and Thursday morning at Baltimore's 98 Rock, WIYY, 97.9 FM. Former 98 Rocker Kirk McEwen will be filling in for Mickey on Monday and Tuesday....."

This seems to substantiate the scuttlebutt that has been buzzing quietly on this otherwise dead thread. It must really chap LFF's ass to be filling in for (I assume this to be his not so-humble opinion) a hack comic gone deejay who never paid his dues in the biz. Oh how the mightily rotund hath fallen... Hard. Even funnier is that he will be splitting (not sharing) the filled time with his former on-air partner.

Interestingly enough, this has served to spark some memories in my mind of the shift that took place a few years back, what I recall to be the "Summer of Hot Talk" (not so sure if that's seasonally accurate, but that's what I'll call it anyway) What I'm referring to would be the period where it seemed like CBS radio wanted to hire ANYONE that fit the "Hot Talk" bill and their stations bore the "Free FM" Moniker. Big O and Dukes did a little show known as "Out to Lunch" on 105.7 in B-more with a newsguy named Josh Speigel. After the great R. Edward Lopez passed, Kirk and Mark Ondayko were so enamored with the thought of basking in the lights of CBS that they went out and signed a contract bringing them to what was hailed as the NEW HFS (what a debacle). I Remember Doni G. called in and gave those guys props the first day they broadcast their new show which replaced the Junks in B-more in the AM Drive. It was supposed to give B-More the morning show they loved and made #1. KMS (Kirk, Mark, and Shamrock) on HFS as it were. Once again, CBS saw an opportunity to try to profit, trying to give the kids their HFS fix by bringing in Tim Virgin and (I think) Bob Waugh to jock "alterna-tunes" after 7pm, and switching back to talk come 5:30am. I even recall Niece being on directly before KMS. Those guys just never did hit the mark up the dial for whatever reason. I also recall when OTL took on Ed Norris first as a guest, then saddling him alongside Big O and Dukes, and eventually showing BOAD the door and keeping Norris. I believe then Spiegel went to KMS, then in a strange turn of events ended up with the 98 Rock morning show. I know, I am just rambling on here, but the progression of things and how it all shook out as far as where all the personalities ended up, and the way the "Hot Talk" format imploded, I just find it all interesting somehow. Especially when you consider that one former CBSer used to be #1 in B-More, and LFF used to be a hot-shot nationally syndicated broadcaster, and they now scrap it out filling shifts on a locally owned station where a hack comic is the current frontman.

What's even more interesting is to consider Howard Stern and how his moniker "King of all Media" has become more relevant by all this. All these shifts were in some way influenced by his leaving terrestrial radio.

BTW - Does anyone even have a clue what became of Ondayko?

I try to give credit where credit is due on this thread.

1. Don Geronimo's new show has already gotten better. It's much more natural than it was a few weeks ago when I stopped listening regularly.

2. Mike was funnier on Arch Campbell's show than I've heard in awhile. He still has it. I don't know what's up wih the podcast though.

#2's pretty simple. LFF is a change-up, not a fastball. He's great as the second guy, can't handle the big chair. And Rob(b) should be heard from for about 30 seconds per show.

It is astonishing that Geronimo's show is about to get its third station (San Diego) but TMOS and BOAD are off the air.

You're easily astonished. Donnie G's show is still medium-funny. The horror of LFF's non-show is well-recorded. BOAD didn't suck that bad, but there's nothing there that screams out "Winner."

There is nothing to be astonished about. Neither TMOS nor BOAD are good enough, in their current state, to get widespread radioplay. If you were a radio station and were provided a copy of a BOAD featuring almost all Sven and Dan Creasy, would you buy it?

Come on. Do you think FOR ONE SECOND that LFF still has the juice to bring a "crew" with him? "Oh, yeah, this is my radio posse."

O'Meara can drag either of those hacks into any studio he wants to, but no station management will pay them.

Rob(b) and Oscar, are back where they stared - unpaid interns.

How fitting.

I see Rob(b) out of the area and working in Iowa within a year. He may even buy into the station to secure a place on the air. Oscar will be out of radio within 18 months. Buzz will be on the new news station and Mike will be a WalMart greeter...for a week, and then he'll get really pissy and be fired.

One thing I still don't get about the failcast is why they continue to hold themselves to the ridiculous FCC standards that tanked "guy talk" on terrestrial radio. I mean these are all adults, "broadcasting" to other grown adults, on the Internet, where nobody cares. One of the few perks of being relegated to a lowly podcast I guess. Yet instead all the time it's "Eff this!" or "Eff that!" Do they really think their few hangers-on would care if they said "douchebag" instead of "D-Bag"?

Chad mentioned that Netflix especially made BOAD bleep the eff out of their show.

But standard, no? LFF was a star -- sure, a second banana, but a star -- and now he's basically doing dinner theater.

Not as pathetic as "Mike O'Meara's Morning Breakfast Bunch" in Fort Myers is going to be. Live remotes from retirement homes!

Larry King for breakfast; Charley for lunch; Bob Barker for dinner.

The fact that LFF is still trying to make a living from imitating 80-year-old men, and that he really hasn't developed any new good voices in a LONG time, and that the King/Barker voices are still his trump card, shows you (a) how far behind the times he is; and (b) how lazy he is.
