If he's verbally abusing co-workers it seems quite probable his wife is experiencing similar treatment. So I find myself also expecting the marriage to collapse. No news flash here, but O'Meara is just not a very nice man.

Two more comments about today's show:

1. That "apology" fell short. Mike compounded the problem by failing to offer even a glimmer of contrition.

2. Mike should let someone else read the "WeightNot" ad copy. If you've seen Mike lately you know that he's the one guy in the room who has no credibility when it comes to recommending a diet program.

As I have suspected in the past...

Carla is with mike for two main reasons. Numero uno, she has daddy issues. Her drunk/drug addicted, absentee father really did a number on her, when it comes to her choices in men. Also, seeing her mother with different dickish boyfriends as she grew up was not a great example.

Cash is a big factor as well, she's a sweet girl but not really all that bright and she has no formal education. So she is not capable of supporting a decent lifestyle on her own and not clever enough to find a rich/attractive guy to support her either. Enter Mr. O'Meara.

When they met, Mikey dropped cash like it was going out of style, he was truly her big poppa. These days, not so much, she is basically his underpaid employee. However she lives in chez O'Meara rent free, Mike takes care of all of the bills. I believe Carla pays to lease her lexus, and that's about it. So she's putting a little away each month for that rainy day. Trust me, when it rains, it will pour!

Let's compare classmates...

Mike O'Meara - Fired from his last two broadcast gigs, now failcasting from his living room.

Tony Perkins - Got canned from GMA a while ago, but was immediately picked up by a local station in town, been on the air ever since.

Yes, these two were AU journalism classmates. I like Tony, but he can barely string a sentence together while off prompter. So Tony's degree and his ability have kept him gainfully employed in this town, what's your excuse Mike?

Who the fuck gets a degree in Journalism from an expensive school like AU and then decides to be "the funny voice guy" on a morning zoo? Right there is proof that having a college degree doesn't mean you aren't an idiot.

Prior to the morning zoo, mike was a production/imaging guy at wava I think. He bounced around from shitty am station to club DJ gigs until that fateful day when he met Don. Don thought, I can use this schmuck, and convinced the pd to add him to the air staff, as you know.

So let's just imagine Mike worked at Q107 or some station other than wava, and never met Don. I guaran-damn-tee you that Mike would be doing weddings or spinning ke$ha at the local roller rink today, in this parallel universe.

Working with Don was the best and most successful period in Mike's life. Now that those days are in the rear-view, it's a slow decent into hell. He can brag about his degree, experience, whatever, the only thing Mike ever had going for him was Don.

Just a thought... come up with some new material for the 'Audio Vault'. It gets really old hearing you play the same thing later in the day that Donnie G. already played that morning on his show in Sacramento.

Just try harder!

When Mike asked his second wife, Laura, about his parenting skills, her answer was "you're a good golfer." There were anger issues in that marriage, like the time he walked through the sliding glass door.

He's a jock sniffer ("let me not tell you about all my cop-friends") and a bit of a bully, now reduced to "power-walking" one and a half miles.

The "Yaz is a Fag" story comes from around the time (2003?) Colon Pooh-well was going to the U.N. about the aluminum tubes and how we had to invade. Don started saying "Yaz is a fag" and Mike got really really upset and Don kept pushing it and pushing it. I was parked in my car out near Dulles drinking beer after work at EDS and it was great radio. Don flat out told Mike that he could do the show without him (I personally liked the show with both of them) and if he wanted to walk out he could. I forget if he did or not.

All the old shows are on paintyourbaldspot.com

Marc is a control freak on that site. I used to post there almost every day (another name), and once got a message deleted for jokingly calling Rob(b) a dimwit.

And Marc was getting even more tight assed lately, with a number of regulars seeming to quit because of it.

But suddenly there's been a flood of critical posts following Mike's meltdown. I'm not sure what's causing Ronick to change so dramatically.

It's called not giving a fuck. Sounds like LFF is losing these people. It's what happens when you shit on people every day and expect to be treated like God in return.

There are now over 100 comments on the TMOS page about Tuesday's show. I see LFF and Marc got into a tiff and FFXU was even mentioned. I saw a couple of other regular FFXU posters in there as well. Marc just must not give a shit at all anymore with the amount of hate that is normally not found up there on their comments.

I just checked and my only comment on the meltdown wasn't posted. So even with 100 negatives, there are even more being dumped.

And mine wasn't intended to be mean spirited. Just a sincere observation that Mike may need some help with his alcoholism.

That's too bad. I wonder what the criteria was for selecting certain posts over others? Some of those posts are pretty mean, even for this thread, and they are on the TMOS official site. Makes you wonder.

Yeah, O'Meara's living room is a dysfuntional "workplace", but still when the boss calls a co-worker a 'douchebag', that's vile behavior.

Wouldn't be tolerated where I work...

Mike offered no apology for the attack on Buzz. He read three facebook posts and tried to imply that they summarized the audience response.

But 100 angry comments on your own site is hard to ignore. He'll break down and read them eventually.

I wonder why Marc approved so many critical comments. In the past he would have deleted them. Maybe he's trying to send Mike a message.

If you listen to every show, you have to know that Mike treats his people poorly. Chad from.BOAD is getting worse as well...he is turning into a mix of aggressive Don and insecure Mike. Listen to this week's BOAD. Chad yells at a cast member for not inviting him to play soccer when a. He's already instructed his friends to not discuss soccer around him and b. He acknowledges that he would've aggressively dissed the invite. I wish that someone would call them out more often.

The RJ situation is still crazy to me, also.

My guess is that since Mike's mother is 92 and living in an old person's home, that she'll probably die soon. When that happens, I predict that Mike will finally get a wake up call and kill the podcast. I give it 6 to 8 months.

Also, I'm one of the people who post over on the other site as LFF. I just figured it's our version of anonymous.

I thought the same thing...

But the failcast is Mike's only option for income at this point. The handfull of rubes that keep buying t-shirts and downloading bonus content are paying Mike's bills. He has burnt every bridge he has crossed professionally, so he has no other option except running this failcast into the ground.

Several times a week, Mike complains about not making enough money but he works less than one hour a day. And let's face it, for most of us, what he considers "work" would really be just an average coffee break: A little light reading, joking with your pals, complaining about tv shows, etc.

Isn't it time for him to finally use that amazing degree that he threw in Buzz's face?

Why doesn't he get off his flabby ass and get a job?

I think you guys might have nailed it right here. It definitely appears that LFF is losing the loyalty of the troops. A year ago I posted on that site a congratulations when this thread hit 10,000 posts and, not surprisingly, it was down within the hour.

Now there is a regular poster over there with the screen name "LFF" and mentions of this site on TMOS home page. NEVER would have happened a year ago!!!

Next somebody(not me) is going to register the name WashingTone-Locian over there and start posting. I'm sure the whole Failcast Crewe knows the name well.

It's funny and kind of sad that some variation of this question seems to pop up in this thread every so often. As much vitriol as people here seem to be able to work up for Mike (some of which I do agree with) he realistically has very few options at this point in his life. He's in his mid-50's with essentially no job skills aside from radio shock-jockery, which is in ever-dwindling demand, from him or anyone else for that matter. He can't just pick up and move somewhere else, even if there were an opportunity, because he's stuck in a house that's now worth less than he owes on it (as many of us are). Whatever value his degree once had, considering how long ago he got it and that he never actually built a work history off of it, is gone.

I do agree that many of his problems are self-made, but rather than revel in predictions as to when what's left of his career and life will come crashing down around him in spectacular fashion, I feel kind of sorry for the guy. He really is out of options in a lot of areas in his life, and he's closer to the end than to the beginning. What's he gonna do, enroll in a community college?

Would that be so bad? What would any of us do under the same circumstances?

Does anyone really believe he's even looking for a job? He has plenty of free time these days.

A life of easy money and short, lazy hours have turned him into a middle-aged, bloated infant who cries when someone makes him walk a few steps. He talked briefly about that on today's show.

I'd like to feel sorry for him, but as you said, his problems are all self-inflicted and he's showing no sign of coming to terms with them.

Worse than that, he's lashing out at everyone around him, as if they're the ones making his life miserable.

No wonder Carla prefers to hang out and drink with her mother. She wanted a baby and all she got was Baby Huey.

LFF could be a morning zoo jock in Ft. Walton Beach, or some other shithole. It doesn't pay much, but the cost of living isn't too bad, either. As for the house, he should consider strategic foreclosure. Not like he will ever get what he sank into that place, anyway.

We've all know this for some time, it's amazing O'Meara doesn't try something in another market.

Hey, after 40 years in NOVA, I'm in the south now, and it isn't bad - from a 'shock jock' 50-something radio employment perspective, it's gonna be hard for O'Meara. Why? Young 30 something personalites dominate the morning airwaves and they all want to move to DC, Batimore, even Richmond.

Where's he going to fit in?

Bipedal: "using only two legs for walking"

It just dawned on me that Mike's greatest achievement lately is the fact he's managing to remain a functioning biped.

LOOK everyone! The baby is walking!

this made me giggle

Wonder if LFF walks by his old bar on his daily walks. Business at the place seems fairly good. So what went wrong LFF? why couldn't you hack it while the new bar is successful?
does he still have the lease on the place and he's currently subleasing?

Unless the bar owner took over the lease, I assume LFF is still subleasing it. He probably had to sign a 10 year lease with a personal guarantee. I imagine it should be coming to an end soon, though. Didn't he open it in 2003 or 2004?

LFF did consistently entertain me with his ability to "talk up" records, so maybe he'd have some future as a dj in a lower-tier market. That said, this is probably a skill that is as relevant as Elvis.

I live in a lower-tier market (Myrtle Beach) and the radio personalities here hustle - they have on air gigs, but do commercials, voice over work and lots of personal apperances, appear in local theatre productions, etc. to make a living.

I don't see O'Meara exerting that much effort even if it means survival.

Spewak spins records for two hours a week at KCJJ and it doubt he's paid for the effort, and I base that observation on the fact that it doesn't seem he does any live reads which would get him some cash. I'll admit I've never listened to his show for more that 10-15 minutes so I don't know how many commercials they run assuming KCJJ can sell any ads for the "Spewak Show".

O'Meara will continue with the podcast until it has to be shut down, he's got no alternative, the 'employment fairy' isn't throwing $500K/year DC radio gigs his way, and I'll bet if he leaves DC, Carla says 'adios' and bunks up with Moms.

Mike is so fucked...

The jobs he could get would end up costing him more in gas money than he would earn.

Also, he couldn't hack it! He complained his ass off because he had to take a trip to Jennifer St every morning. We all know Mike couldn't work the board/computer to save his life, much less keep track of a log. Imagine Mike having a meltdown trying to take/edit calls while the clock ticks down. After 20+ years in radio I still think he'd shit himself if he was in a studio sans board op, and responsible for 100% of what went on the air.

I'm sure selling out that 400 seat night club netted them a little extra cash. But let's be honest here, Mike's monthly nut is rather bloated even now. What happens if he has a real estate issue with one of his rentals, or needs cash for whatever reason; that well has run dry.

I foresee Mike venturing out into some other means of income, not sure what that is yet?

Today was... Apology Friday! Sort of. The whole first segment was devoted to addressing the online response to Mikey's blowup at Buzzy earlier in the week, prompted by Ronick showing Mike the 100+ mostly negative responses in the show comments for whatever day that was. Maybe the conspiracy theory from this thread that Ronick was suddenly allowing negative comments through for a reason was right..?

Without a doubt. Ronick deserves a lot of credit for trying to get Mike to face reality on this subject.

But Mike's apology was pathetic. He claimed that he was 100% percent responsible but kept complaing about Buzz "pushing his buttons".

Classic wife beater talk.

Screw him.

Remember the time:

Mike's date left him in Bermuda/Bahamas because of his anger issues,

Mike sat on the glass hatch on the boat and broke it,

Mike walked through a sliding glass door,

Mike's second wife Laura (not his first wife Billie) told him that as a father he was a good golfer,

The time Mike blew up at Don for saying "Yaz is a fag" which you can hear on paintyourbaldspot.com, just search for the title "Anal Sox",

and the list goes on.

Seriously, Yaz is a fag, but you can't say that on the TMOS website. Doesn't mean you can't make a T-shirt.

True, but Ronick did do some editing. My comment that it was about time Mike get some help with with his alcoholism was deleted. Until they face that reality, the S.S.Addiction will continue its glug, glug, glug to the bottom of the sea.

That IS classic wife beater talk. "She made me hit her." "Buzz made me get angry."

All Buzz did was express an opinion. Mike's anger is entirely Mike's responsibility.

Regarding the alcoholism comment, I can see why Ronic deleted it. While LFF exhibits all of the signs of having a problem, it's probably not in the best interest of the Failcast to have a diagnosis like that on their website. Of course, it's also not in the best interest if the Failcast to have a verbally abusive baby-man imbibing all of the time.

You're right, although the unmentionable drinking problem is the reason I stopped enjoying to TMOS. Specifically, when he injured his knee in that drunken fight and then the way it was presented.

First he lied about what happened. When the story was finally told it was spun as a courageous act for him to tell the truth, and that the fight was admirable because he was injured "defending Carla's honor". (Whatever that means, because he offered few details. Jealousy would be my guess.)

So the dope hurts himself in a drunken fall - that's probably the most dramatic warning sign of an alcohol abuse problem - lies about it (sign #2), and then presents himself as a hero. And the silly crew enthusiastically salutes him for his courage.

That was the moment I thought, "What the fuck am I listening to?"

Mike's meltdown this week will likely be a jumping off point for a few others.

I don't know how many listeners they've really lost but I wonder if their financial support doesn't drop off. "Cappy Pheifer" or whatever her name is (Mike's biggest $upporter) hasn't been heard from since the blowup.

I can't imagine anyone using their Amazon link or buying those lame-ass products after this week.

I agree that this is fucked up thinking. That said; I think LFF may have come to the right conclusion for the wrong reasons.

Anybody who will tolerate this behavior, ESPECIALLY when taking into consideration the piddly amount of $$$ they must be pulling in is doing their part to enable this cycle of abusive behavior. Of course nobody deserves to be treated like shit(especially by LFF of all people) but at some point Buzz(and the others) have to man-up and get out or be willing to accept some responsibility for this dysfunctional relationship.

A healthy, well-adjusted person wouldn't tolerate this shit for long, yet for years the Failcast Crewe has seemed to stick around there when most others would have bounced long ago.

Tom Leykis is associated with Mangrates as well. It must be interesting if the Mangrates/MOMS relationship is dead now due to lack of value to Mangrates, since as far as I know, Oscar is one of the main people involved in positioning Mangrates with podcasts like Corolla and Leykis. He can't even sell his own show to himself?

Perhaps that was because Mangrates are a bad prodcut? I know two people who bought them as gifts. One person used them one time and they rusted away on the deck after that, the other never took them out of the box and refered to them a "a joke".

Please, post all of your positive Mangrate stories here and we can all read them each Thursday to a crappy music bed.

LOL!

Yes, I think Oscar even went out and met with Corolla. I have to wonder if Oscar is even working with Mangrates now, after the falling out with o_0, where she works.

I'm sure LFF is pissy because Mangrates figured out they could sell thousands of those things through Corolla and Leykis, while they were lucky to move a few dozen through LFF. To top it off, didn't the Mangrates guy buy Carla's motorcycle? After he got his fill of sniffing these seat, he probably moved on.

As for Mangrates themselves, I don't know if they are a good product or not. I just think it's kind of stupid to buy a cast-iron piece of shit to set on your existing grill when you can buy a full cast-iron grill to place in there for less. Call me crazy for thinking Mangrates look cheap in comparison.

I think Don was being a jerk...but that one comment was dead on. Mike doesn't care about what people hear. At the time, as I remember it and as the archive podcasts show, the comment made no sense. Now it does.

Also, the Mangrate is awesome. I bought one for my dad (through one of the podcasts...not sure which) and he loves it. Everything they say is true. As I understand it, it is very expensive to get a grill like that otherwise. I could be wrong, but if I am, please include a link to a reputable retailer.

Amazon reviews are mostly positive, seem to be legit reviews too. Complaints on the other Mangrate listing (just one single "grate") are related to its size, and not the device itself.

I'm with WTL though. I'd put my money towards a new grill. Of course I'd need to not buy a lot of Mangrates to get the Big Green Egg I really want.
