That sad reality is that a show with 23 million downloads should already be pulling C- maybe D-list celebrities like Patton Oswalt weekly (as opposed to once after four years).

So, Mike can pull these guests:

Patton Oswalt
Tony Perkins
Candace Bushnell (maybe, on the phone)
Jimmy Cirrito
Todd Moore
Officers Meg and Jerky
Katie Powers blah blah blah
a few random DC TV anchors and weather forecasters
sponsors like Oakton Wine Shop guy
mother-daughter reunions

That's it, that just may be the list.

--Dustin Diamond
--"The Bachelor" third runner-up (from two seasons ago)
--The best friend on "Blossom"
--That guy who used to talk really fast in the '80s (you know who I mean, that guy from commercials)

I only see one troll here. Pay attention - everyone has said how great the show was today. Patton took control and shut Mike's stupid shit down, cutting off his dumb responses in mid sentence. If you tabulated actual mic time, it was probably the least contribution from Mike, Oscar or Robb in 1000 episodes. That is what made it an interesting podcast.

I didn't think it was possible, but Patton Oswalt actually made the audio vault interesting. This was because he had entertaining commentary, humor, and additional insight in response to stupid YouTube clips. He had more context for the things Robb played, selected painstakingly during his "hours of show prep" than Robb did. Even more hilarious was hearing the pain in Blob(b)'s voice as he realized he wasn't going to get to all his stale clips because someone was doing more than just laughing in response to each video.

It's obvious LFF has not heard of, yet alone listened to, most of the podcasts mentioned by Patton. Let the full gravity of that sink in; a morbidly obese former DJ who makes their (meager) living recording a podcast for under 2 hours on a daily basis has done zero market research on the competition or why they regularly sit below more than 90 other podcasts on the iTunes charts. Who would have ever expected to hear Night Vale mentioned on the Failcast, even in passing. Mike truly refuses to move past the dead "guy talk radio" format and in to a podcast focused enterprise.

The best part of today's show was definitely Mike once again admitting that he eats full meals in bed, eagerly hoping his BFF Patton would say that he does as well, only to be shot down.

Mike, it's never too late to gain some sense of what you should keep to yourself.

If it's possible, this made me more of a Patton fan and even less of a TMOS fan. After hearing Patton on O&A and then hearing him here...It definitely felt clunkier than O&A. Patton made it work because he's fuckin PATTON.

I will say this: if TMOS could make Patton a permaneant addition, I'd tune in everyday. No questions asked.

Patton seemed bummed out by the radio-ness of TMOS. He scrapped on at least two bits, right? I could imagine him thinking "Why not just do the funny or interesting parts of this show?" Maybe I'm wrong.

Agree with the comments about Patton making it the best Failcast in a long time. LFF actually put some effort into the show. Unfortunately, it highlights how lazy and unimaginative TMOS normally is. It is so obvious that LFF is not comfortable as top banana and works best if he is feeding off of other talented people. Choosing to work with Robb shows how absolutely horrible his judgement is.
I also found it interesting that Patton was extremely supportive of other comics who had open for him and eventually move on to their own gigs.....imagine that.

Good points all. I guarantee Fuckwaddle's only effort was to tell Oscar to "make sure the studio is cleaned up."

I must have missed it. Did they promote Oswalt's appearance on Modern Family that night?

To expect Fuckwaddle to support others' podcasts, even on his own "network" (newsflash: podcasts don't have "networks". I talking to you, RELM.)

And no one made the obvious comparison of a 14 year old Dave Chapelle to a young Mike O'Mears singing "Captain Hook"?

Agree that this was better than usual, but so was the Tony Perkins appearance when he could get a word in edgewise. Really, anything that reduces the input from Fuckwaddle and Fat Rob improves the show. It's a simple formula.

Good guests TMOS could actually get:

Arch Campbell
Basement John that guy who does cable access with bad musicians on Channel 8
DCRTV Dave
Robert Lighthouse
Someone from the National Zoo
Any random homeless guy

and that's pretty much it. Because Beth Ann took her rolodex with her and none of them have a clue about how to get a guest, except maybe Oscar (again). Oscar deserves a bigger cut, or better billing: The Mike O'Meara Show, Radio Entertainment.Created by Oscar Santana His business ventures are reminders that FDB isn't actually his boss.

As for Bill Hicks (fuck that guy, he's dead so I'd say Denis Leary won), Fat Drunk Baby opened with "isn't it kind of a tradition for comedians to steal other comedians' material" when the story, in fact the only story about Bill Hicks, is that Denis Leary stole from him. Great show prep FDB!

Buck buck.

Just my two cents.

This is the part that has always saddened me, and I have mentioned it before, that they really seem to be in the old radio mindset of competition, as opposed to the podcast community mindset. I guarantee Oscar listens to the others, but dud you all notice he never mentioned how funny or interesting they were? Just the number of listeners and money related stuff?

As a bigger fan of Robb than most on this board, I am amazed he has never even hinted that he listens to the "Thrilling Adventure Hour"...Because it seems to me that if there was ever anything directly in his wheelhouse, it would be that.

I am sure Mike's venom towards other shows has kept him from mentioning if he listens to others, but I doubt he does.

Still one of the biggest shames of the show.

Completely agree here. Patton does TONS of podcasts, and GETS IT.
You could almost hear him rolling his eyes at the "Bits" but he has been a fan for a long time, so he will let that stuff slide.

Though I am fairly certain I heard Mike die a little inside every time Patton mentioned another Podcast.

Robb has specifically mentioned a rule they have to NOT ever mention another podcast.

Which caused me fits of laughter when Patton started listing TONS of great ones.

My Oscar video has over 100 views so there must be quite a few people that wanted to see it, but weren't members of the club.

And that is precisely why Robb should not be allowed to make decisions. You lose NOTHING by giving a shout out to other podcasts, in the spirit of brotherhood. Additionally, I would venture to say you lose nothing by getting in a 'podcast war'. Any publicity is good publicity.

TMOS wants to exist in a vacuum. And it does a great job, cause boy it sucks.

This would make a great TMOS tagline. LFF doesn't even want to be on or even mention the other podcasts on "his network", not to mention other podcasts. The same isolationist attitude that radio shows had 10 years ago. You look at the smodcast and nerdist networks, they regularly do cross promotion. It's not the radio where someone listening to a show on another station isn't going to listen to your show in that timeslot. Their shower radio preset isn't going to get stuck on the other guys. LOLscar *should* understand this, but I think his business acumen is vastly exaggerated by TMOS and BOAD.

It could be that. Or it could be that Oscar is being overruled. This is still Mike's baby - even if 90% of the work is done by 'not him' - and if he feels strongly enough, I'm sure he gets what he wants.

Business Oscar vs Full Mike...sorry, Full Mike wins everytime.

But they were purported to be the BEST BIRTHDAYS EVER!

Because all the best birthday segments begin with a minute of Mike and Robb trying to sound out the first birthday guy's last name.

This whole TMOS show must be some kind of Andy Kaufman thing.

They KNOW how bad it is and are playing everyone.

Right?

Right??

I'm trying to convince myself of this because I can't imagine that they actually think their shitfest is good.

And somebody should note how great a dude Patton Oswalt must be. He's basically one of us - an old D&M fan who went on to stunning success in his professional career, but still finds time for TMOS.

I've never seen Mike so intent as he leaned forward as Patton explained how easily the good podcasters can create additional financial opportunities for themselves. Mike had a look of "if only wishing would make it so."

I have to admit Patton managed to breathe some new life into the seriously ill podcast yesterday. But I thought Mike sounded kind of overwhelmed about halfway through the show.

Today, it was back to train-wreck city. Mike got pissed off during the birthday segment because one of the requests involved three or four names. I thought he was going to cuss Robb out. "This is what happens when the staff doesn't sweat the details..." Yeah, like Mike ever sweated a detail in his life. No way he could take 5 minutes before the show and read over the names.

After he calmed down, he promised that he and Robb would work harder, try harder. We've heard that before.

Agree with all who said Patton made the failcast actually good yesterday. Glad to see them fall right back into their old habits today with the usual crap. Love the Oscar (and now begrudgingly Robb) are calling LFF on his anger with his kids. I'm sure those kids loves visits with Papa which features dinner at 430. And I can only hope Oscar hangs onto the eating in bed for all the guests who show up which should be very few since only one has been entertaining. Cannot wait for the Monday show after next week just to see how they handle Don coming back.

Let's not forget that chick from the Food Network. I think her name was Nadia something, I can't remember her name or the show she's on because Mike spent the entire interview constantly telling her how hot she was, and how he wanted to fuck her, even though she is half his age.

I listened to the Patton podcast today. It proves that what makes a podcast really work is either an interesting guest and/or an interesting discussion for adults. I listen to several; whether it is Marc Maron or Carolla or Jay Mohr or Joe Rogan or Dom Irrera or Jim Florentine or Sadly Lacking or Joey Diaz or Greg Proops or Duncan Trussell......it is not so much about the har har har HAR HAR HAR!!!!!!!! and bits and farting and talk of bowel movements, but about interesting discussion among smart people. I emphasize SMART. Maybe too much to ask.........

Patton mentioned several podcasts. I'l like to see a list so I can check them out. I have heard a couple of them. The ones I can remember are:

The Nerdest
Never Not Funny
Night Vale
Marc Marin
You Made it Weird
Smodcast

Nadia G, Bitchin' Kitchen. That interview was like a scene from The Office. Mike kept saying, "I must sound like an old perv ..." as a leading statement, and then there would be this awkward pause until she went, "Uh ... no. Ha ha."

I'm behind on the show, but I finally heard the liberal v. conservative show and THAT was like a whole Office episode. I almost turned it off two or three times, but I didn't want to abandon Oscar.

Now FDB says he's "slowed down on my drinking." Who didn't see that coming? Not quit, "slowed down" which probably means "secret drinking".

This has been going on for some time, but I believe I opine on it for the first time here: the funniest part of the show is when Fuckwaddle does old Greaseman bits.

So this morbidly obese housebound alcoholic doesn't even pre-read the birthday bits. Who knew? Ain't nobody got time for that, Jesus! And Johnny Brain Damage stumbles over the simplest names. Oscar raises a good point: clearly JBD doesn't have anyone with a name beyond Dick and Jane in his limited whitebread social circle.

Oscar calls Fat Rob out on his poor mic technique and the poor layout of his birthday lists. Clearly Oscar is right.

Mike "gets giddy" when he's with his daughters? NO. He turns into Douche Dad, complete with 4 pm dinner, which will be standard in the retirement community he is moving to. I'm guessing they had a waiter since there were no tales of jocularity with the waitress in the job that according to Fat Rob means your life is over.

So, a dinner of rabbit, sausage, and snails at 4 in the afternoon. Because who doesn't love a German restaurant? Another memory made for clan O'Meara.

Daughters' pussies, big black cock

Buck buck

My two cents

I may have missed it, but no comment here re. Mike's story about his recent bed-eating story? Carla, her mom and friends were out for a good-bye dinner and drinks and they all came back to the Victorian. I think the story was Mike was in bed when Carla brought him in some food. The amazing part was that he had retired to bed in his underwear and half-buttoned dress shirt (too lazy to take it off, he said). So there he was, eating from the plate on his naked belly, dress shirt split above (hey, Hint from Heloise, it also serves as a napkin!), when Carla brought the tipsy ladies into the bedroom to view her prize of a husband. LFF is living up to his moniker. Once more.

Oh, and thanks for the story, Mike. More of the same, please. It's the best thing about the podcast for me.

So when Mike was podcasting from the Victorian, his morning ritual theoretically was to eat, get out of bed, button 3 or 4 buttons, lumber downstairs, sit in his chair and do his show. Once the show is over, he just reversed the process. Throw in some TV and alcohol for variety.

No wonder the DC studio is such a hassle; now, pants and shoes are involved.

Another suggestion for the hopelessly-radio-format-bound TMOS -- if someone, oh, say, Patton Oswalt, implies or seems he could stay for "another hour," KEEP RECORDING ANOTHER HOUR! Cut it up into 2 podcasts, let your (one) radio station cut it into the segments they want, it doesn't matter. You get a good guest, use him. How simple is this?

The show actually did get better when they extended it for the DC station. I advocated for a 90+ minute show before - would minimize the effect of the lame bits and would require more effort from the gang. They can phone in (or Skype) an episode now.

They won't do it. Under any circumstances.

So I'm attempting to start a war between Chad and Don. I encourage everyone on twitter to join in. Chad congratulated Don. I commented saying Chad's a back stabber. Don asked for proof and said Chad was always good to him. I gave him all of Chad's recent shit-talk against Don. Don just re-tweeted a tweet to Chad from CK talking shit against Don. The tweet was from 2009. Don's obviously pretty pissed if he's digging through 5 years of posts. It could actually be pretty interesting if Don decided to have a podcast war with BOAD.
