I listened to the prisoner discussion this morning, being a professional broadcaster I would think Mike would have been able to clarify his position a little better. It came down to: Of course his parents would have done anything to get him back, but the government shouldn't have done it, or if they did they should have done it differently. Not a horrible position, but it took him way too long to say it and anyone without years of listening would have had no idea what he was saying.

That is not what stood out in the conversation to me though, it was three comments by Rob.

The first was about Jimmy Carter being so brilliant that he saw shades of gray instead of black and white. I seem to recall a hostage crisis(52 hostages held for 444 days) during the end of Carter's administration that would have ended with the return of one man. I think, at this point, Rob was trying to convey that Obama is brilliant like Carter was.

Then the comment about how everyone is attacking Obama because it's easy to do when you don't research a topic to find out the information. I'll leave this alone since we all know about Rob's great researching skills whenever he wants to attack something.

The last one was about how the Obamacare website roll out was a bigger failure by the "brilliant" Obama than this.

Bonus: How about comparing trading prisoners to trading draft picks?

Rob started out defending Obama and once he saw the direction Mike was headed, he decided to change his opinion toward the end. If he had been convinced to change it, a normal person would have said there were good points made, instead Rob just changes mid-stream and tries to find humor in the situation to cover for himself. Even Mike admitted to good points when they decided to change the birthday segment(Tomorrow we'll see if the changes stick).

Yes, I still hate Rob.

Irredeemable, maybe, jackass, probably. At least he did take it to the klub for an hour or so before they booted him a few months back, so he doesn't always use his powers for evil.

That picture raises some questions..

Is Oscar losing a lot of hair??

Did Robb actually put that jacket on on purpose or did he lose a bet? Did he pose so that arrow is pointing at him?

Is Mike really standing in a bar with a baby? Holding it with one hand whilst playing pocket pool with the other hand? Or WTH is that he's holding?

Is Katy oblivious or is it just the camera shot?

All told, Mike narrowly avoided a full blown political talk crisis here. I didn't get angry listening to this one. I might have skipped a few minutes in the middle though.

However, I laughed long and hard when he criticized people jumping to conclusions and not doing their research. That's what he always does! Also, he criticizes all these people for having the exact same position that he himself held before his wife yelled at him. Am I understanding that correctly? Hilarious.

You can't see because Oscar's head is blocking it, but next to the arrow it says:

Truthfully, I would rather hear Tom Gavin or Dennis Murphy talk politics...At least they would have a better idea what they are talking about and have more informed talking points...

"OK, we are looking bad because of this Vet thing, can we do anything to re-enforce our commitment to our soldiers?"

"I have an idea, we have a soldier that has been held by the Taliban for 5 years!"

"Great, what can we do to get him back?"

"Well, there are these 5 Taliban members in Gitmo that we really can't do anything with legally, and are going to have to let go at some point anyway."

"Great, make the trade."

2 weeks later...

Speaking of Mike's daughters.....

On today's podcast, Mike accidentally referred to Carla as Laura. When the guys called him on it, he said he had his ex on his mind because, "I talked to my ex this weekend. What a slice of heaven that was."

Hmm...sounds like Laura gave Mike a piece of her mind about something. Maybe the fact that he was in NoVa for almost a week, and didn't spend any time with his daughters?

D.O. here is on to something.

Like I said last page, I read the entire book. I read it in one night - not because it was gripping, but because it was super light reading and I wanted to get through it asap. There are a lot of things in there we could attack, I will say that.

However, I will say this - the book gave me a real insight into what Mike and crew is really like in real life. And that is, frankly, a bumbling moron and his band of merry men.

I understand that the book was written in such a way as to make them look awesome, but I actually feel sympathy for TMOS. Mike all but admits he blew the millions he earned from Don n Mike. They are forthcoming about how they scrape enough cash together to keep going.

I will say that the book really put a dent in the disdain I feel for TMOS. I'm still not going to listen to the show because frankly it's not worth my time to listen.

I kinda feel like I'm picking on the retarded kid in school now.

Carla: Nope. The first Mrs. Michael S. O'Meara became the first ex-Mrs. O'Meara around '91-92. Mike's a little foggy on the exact date. Their separation agreement provided he could not thereafter even acknowledge they had been married, let alone speak of her or disclose any other information about their marriage.

I blazed thru the book. I took the afternoon off and read it at a bar not far from my JHU office and drank Jameson (only fitting) while reading it.

Wow...Um....I feel bad for the LFF.

Reading between the lines and leveraging what I already knew, this is a sad book. Assuming the book is correct, those idiots are trying and the Failcast is really their holy grail.

Again assuming the book is true (which is hard to tell, but since LFF didn't write it, likely the author {that one would assume would want another writing gig} did their best), it is pretty sad. They try things and somethings resonant with their "fans" and they basically don't want to fuck with the formula that keeps them in "radio" and in a little bit of $.

A lot of our dollar figures are basically on the mark. You have to make a couple of leaps of logic, but nothing too far.

The book doesn't really have any dirt, nothing really about Buzz or Marc or if LFF reached out to Don.

The basic take away, is TMOS is happy to do TMOS until the end of time if nothing else changes. They are happy with what they create and the return they get from their fans.

Oh, BTW, please don't buy the book.

So, a smash crazy best seller is 650k books. That would be 6 or 7 printings and would be a huge success. That is a book like "A Dance with Dragons".

Even selling a fraction of that 10k or 20k units is enough to move the needle in the book world now-a-days.

If you really want to read it and don't have prime, don't worry, it'll be up on torrent soon. :)

Surely we can find a way to share the few books that have been sold to lessen the amount of revenue of said book. So, if anyone has purchased the book, read it and no longer wants it or would be willing to lend it out, lets talk!

Can Mike have any interaction with actual humans and not complain about it? I haven't finished todays' show, but he's already complained that none of the motorcycle trailer "salesmen" he called on the phone were enthusiastic enough, the Apple store took too long to migrate his data, and someone pulled up next to him in the parking lot of a pet store and interrupted his hanging out in a car experience by having a dog in their car. A place where people, other than his royal fatass, bring dogs to a pet store parking lot truly is the land of suck. I'm real sure he needs a "Cadillac" model macbook air to surf porn, buy fake watches from russian websites and occasionally post on facebook. Talk about show money well spent. Kudos for calling Oscar "Daddy" and making me want to vomit. And who the hell sits in the parking lot with their infant? I have a kid a few months younger than LFF's, and I can't say that I've ever sat in the car with him while my wife went in to the sandwich shop or the pet store. Pet stores are like Disneyland for a little kid. Get your morbidly obese ass out of the self-proclaimed overpriced SUV and carry your kid into the store.

Plus, he of course had a good laugh because the women who gave him a pedicure were "from another land." I have never met a man who gets pedicures. Ever. Blob(b) and LFF get them regularly.

Why would anyone give this man money? And to echo "Fan since 106.7"'s statement:

I used to really enjoy Mike and Rob(b). When TMOS was just starting out on the radio, I actually defended it to a friend, "Yeah, it's not that great, but at least there's more Robb." Now I wish I could download a version of the podcast that had anything Blob(b) says replaced with the sound of whale mating songs. As an middle school fan, Mike was the fun uncle, laid back and not as hostile as Don could be. Fast forward 25 years, the tables are turned 180 degrees. Don is mellow and Mike is about to burst a blood vessel because someone doesn't complement his kids for no reason. I'm so tired of the bitter old hermit LFF bit. Blob(b)'s a shut-in, and Oscar is fake laughing like a school girl and kissing ass as if his life depended on it.

By making a perfectly valid point that we're apparently supposed to ignore. Some fan club members are encouraging giving the book the highest possible rating on Amazon in order to support the guys and cancel out the poor ratings being given by posters here. I noted that rating it highly just for the sake of it is useless and childish since we are the only people aware of the book and any support it may get. Mike saw that and essentially said I'm a shitty fan.

You were basically just making an argument for integrity, which we each did in the original post you alluded to, although you kept pressing the issue and drew fire. I understand the desire some people have to counterbalance with unjustified 5-stars, since the equally unjustified 1-stars came in quickly and unfairly tanked the reviews. In that sense, the false polarity leads to a true value, as long as everyone adopts the "1 or 5" model. Realistic 2-3-star reviews now just support a low skew.

By going with all 1s or 5s, you at least get a rating reflective of the *percentage* of readers who appreciate the book, rather than an objective value of the book's merit. If we actually thought there would be enough exposure and honest review, then yes, eventually "proper" reviews would win out. I don't think we're going to see that, though.

Apparently I've only written one Amazon review, so I'm not about to about to chime in with a second just to say the book's a dreary cliche-ridden fluff piece, since that would be needlessly antagonistic. I was originally hoping for an unauthorized or barely-authorized tell-all getting into real radio war drama and behind-the-scenes battles with corporate insiders like Don dishes out.

That is true. Once you make your point you don't need to keep making it so I was definitely wrong to continue yammering. I just can't stand the bizarre 'I hate this thing people are doing so I'm going to do it back at them' attitude and sometimes I'm foolish enough to think I can talk sense into people. I'll keep myself under control in the future, assuming I've not yet been blocked by everyone and their dog.

Edit - That said, Mike's comment was in response to something that was said after the conversation had progressed beyond the 'talking sense' point. It was an over sensitive overreaction.

Had Robb actually posed with the arrow, he would have stood such that the arrow appeared to go thru his head, like Steve Martin in the olden days (although the 70's are pretty recent for Robb time).

The arrow is apparently pointing to some signage behind Robb.

The phallic nature of the arrow causes Robb's mouth to gravitate towards it.

Robb might have a point about seeing shades of gray and brilliance.

Frankie and Beluga both see shades of gray all the time, and they have consistently outwitted the krewe when it comes to pooping in the house.

And, Mike, when I want your opinion, I'll ask Carla for it, eliminating the middle man.

Mike's thin-skinned, bullying personality never fails to make me sick. Say one thing he doesn't like, and you're out. Does he not realize that if he shits on enough people, he'll have no fans? It's virtually impossible to feel sympathy for this big over-sensitive crybaby.

Oh Mike. Still keeping up that passive aggressive 'trolling' you're so proud of. And in the process, scaring off another fan who's just trying to talk sense. It really is true. One ounce of dissent and Dear Leader comes down with a vengeance.

I love how FFXU GAINS new posters, while the Klub continues to dwindle into silence with a core group continuing to post lame links. Oh and don't forget the pervy HBS photos.

It really makes me wonder if any of the Klubbers look objectively at their sacred garden and realize it's really a shit heap, with a few members clamoring to be King of the Shit.

I also get tired of hearing them say that we're cowardly here at FFXU because we don't post under our real names -- as though it takes heaps of courage to post glowing praise for every single thing their hero does on TMOS. And it's so brave to post reviews on amazon talking about Open Mike like it's the greatest contribution to literature since Shakespeare.

Such bravery! Wonder why they haven't made your birthday a national holiday?

And just to offset Mike's Review.

I started going to Sport Clips and have never looked back. Sure, the theme is really cheesy and unnecessary, and it took me a while to get past that and go in, but it is generally a really good experience. As with all places it can be hit or miss depending on which stylist you get.

But the general MVP package comes with a haircut, and since it caters to men, they don't even ask about doing the ears and eyebrows, which I very much lament having to ask for at other places.
When you get the shampoo, they put you in a massage chair, give you a hot towel, and a deep scalp massage as they wash your hair. It's usually a solid 5 minutes or so.

This next part is impossible to describe without sounding dirty, so I will just say it and move on.

They then take a vibrating device and give you a shoulder massage.

Sure it isn't a spa day, half hour overall generally, but it is barely more than a Hair Cuttery for twice the service.

Thus ends my fawning over Sport Clips...I promise I do not own a franchise, I just sincerely like the product.

OK. Let's compare and contrast Amazon book reviews:

Review #1 from Nicholas Evancich

Want to hear why Mike O'meara can't get a job in radio or why his previous 2 radio shows failed? This book doesn't cover that.

Want to hear about interesting stories about Mike's time with stars that he used to impersonate? This book doesn't cover that. It talks about a few of those stories, but stops before the pay-off.

If you want to read a poorly written book about a failed DJ and his hanger ons, which will make you feel sad about a failed DJ nearing the twilight of his life with no job possibilities (and 2 people that can't get a job in radio that cling to his fading coat tails), than this book is for you.

It is a quick read, if $10 and 2 hours of reading about failure and sadness is your thing, then go for it.

Review # 2 from dbldn11 (Note, Real name not used, also gambling reference to double down)

Don't be fooled by the fake negative reviews. Greatness spawns jealous trolls in all areas, and as there are almost no podcasts greater than the Mike O'Meara Show, haters try to act like they matter from the comfort and safety of their sad, pathetic worlds. The Mike O'Meara Show is a funny, original, creative and informative podcast that puts out five free hour plus long podcasts a week plus a bonus show and a host of other quality free programming on their network. This was a start-up that they built from the ground up and now provides awesome entertainment to literally millions every day. They sell out live shows, pack appearances, and consistently bring the funny. This book does a great job of honestly telling that story. The show lost some (mostly) dead weight several months ago when a segment of the family went off on their own and started their own podcast network. It is nowhere near the quality, but it only served to streamline TMOS and make their already great show better. I haven't finished the book yet, but have enjoyed it a great deal thus far. Whether a fan of the show or someone who has never listened to an episode but is a fan of a true, all-american success story of friends making it work and succeeding together, this is well worth the price. I will probably buy a hard cover as well, to add to my collection of books to let friends and family enjoy as well. Great book. Don't be tricked by a few desperate, sad individuals.

Review #1 is funny because it is insightful
Review #2 is funny because the reviewer is fucking delusional

Review #1 definitely brings the funny. Atta Boy Nick

The placement errors (e.g., legal pad facing the wrong direction), the botched perspectives (e.g., AU degree is the same size as a pair of headphones, the laptop computer angles distorted), the awkward vignetting around the edges, the Bo(ston) pennant is the wrong colors, the sophomoric use of lame Photoshop pre-set features (drop shadowed text)...

I think peekza might be able to hang a couple off Mike's earlobes in honor of the next page...

In the short time since the book, ahem, went to press, the gentleman responsible for the "cover art" apparently failed to pay his web hosting fee. So much for the expected visits to tomhodiak.com by readers clamoring to hire him for other graphic work.

You CAN judge this book by its cover.

When was the last time LFF handled anything in an adult manner? Finances, interactions with retail/restaurant/service industry employees, fatherhood... I can't think of anything.

Daily window into the soul of a LFF from yesterday: he has to watch his son for 30 minutes (this is such an onerous tasK! The clock starts ticking.) while Carla does something. So instead of getting down on the floor and playing with his kid, they sit in his recliner and eat. Because that's healthy, right? All interaction with your overstuffed papa is in an overstuffed Lazy Boy?

I caught the reference to the clock ticking because Mike had no idea how to entertain a child, but I didn't even pause at the idea that father-son time to Mike means sitting and eating. I guess I'm just too used to him.

Don't worry though, Mike's great parenting will kick in soon enough, before long he will be dropping off little Mike at practices to learn how to participate in sports from a man. When that starts happening we will get the stories of how great it is to hear little Mike's stories from practice on the drive home, because that's what being a dad is about.

We already get examples of it now, "Hey dad, want to take me to get my learner's permit?", "I'd love too!!!(Just don't ask me to commit to teaching you anything about driving.)"

I thought the comment could be taken a few different ways:

1. Everyone was pretty much done with YAHOO by 2008. Might have been earlier but definitely just another AOL by then.

2. The commenter after was right and Will was referencing the Git 'er done! comment.

3. Mike's radio career ended then, and there were lot's of people happy about it.

Either way, of course Mike takes it as a horrible insult and jumps to the unfriend/block card.
