They were my favs. I pulled passages from different parts of the book on themes I thought would be of interest to you VH'ers.

peekza bought 5 copies of the book to give out to his least favorite relatives, so he can certainly cite some other passages. If he retained one for himself. He's a giver.

That was my favorite part...the rationalizationathon that Mike doesn't have time, but Certa does...He is soooo bogged down in show prep that he delegates quality control to Certa?

You forgot the third step of Robb listening to OMC and relaying back to Mike, there can be no direct communication of Marcus to Mike unless it involves berating.

You're right...I forgot the Spewsack component...Want to know why Mike uses a middleman? Because he hates having to talk to his "fans"....Thinks they are all beneath him...

Yes that was Moon and Mike blocked her because he was too stupid to realize that she posted it to HER page, and it showed up in HIS newsfeed...Mike,being a techtard, originally thought she posted it to HIS page and even after it was explained, he was worried about people seeing it on HIS newsfeed...Duh...All he had to do to fix it was get a new computer...

Thanks for posting the quote but dag dude you don't need to be all mad about doing so twice. If it was anywhere in last 17 pages the first time, I gotta admit I checked out around 400 with all the Elmo shit, so pardon me for missing it the first time around. The boat stuff was pretty boring too, and so since I can't stand to listen to the show, I glaze over easy here when it's like 17 pages straight of boats and Elmo. But yeah thanks again for reporting.

Seriously, this is the most active thread on the board. If you're gonna get your feelings hurt because people can't memorize every last word you posted, you're in the wrong place.

Don't you realize how vitriolic we are?!?!?

Omg, that kind of shit right there is what drove me to this forum. It finally got to a point where I was looking at all the official stuff, the Facebook, etc. and thinking "I can't possibly be the only person who thinks he's a drooling IDIOT when it comes to tech. I can't be the only one who thinks he sounds like the most petulant asshole when anyone tries to help him." And lo. It turns out that I am not the only one.

I liken my reaction to that cited by the pol who famously said, "From what I understand from doctors, if it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Not to rehash the whole situation, but Mike said some really unkind things about the poster. The fan had done absolutely nothing wrong. Mike also retroactively retracted nice things he had said when the fan met the gang in Ft. Myers. It was bizarre, but the personal attack was really disheartening.

This is what happens to random friends on the show, out of the blue.

Hallway here.

You may know my family; I'm one of the Cedar Rapids Hotdogs.

On last Friday's episode, Oscar said that he got confused during the book signing and actually signed his real name. He covered by adding "Santana" to the end,

Does Oscar use a stage name? If so, what is his real name?

Or does he prefer ... anonymity?

Fan, do you remember what episode that was? I'd like to revisit that if I could. If not, I'm sure a bit of searching through the annals of FFXU should be fruitful.

From the newest Rob & Joe:

"Do you know how many people listen to The Mike O'Meara Show because they hate it?"

Part of a larger point about something unrelated, but not transcribing the whole thing. Rob & Joe are still putting out good shows. And to the extent that they buy the haters line about this place, I haven't seen one negative things about them up here.

This is a new low. Unbelievable. Play that clip on O'Mearacast, Certa!

Also, jhopkins played it the only way he could have. Certa didn't keep his word. Certa got scared of trying to refute the truths jhopkins would have brought to air.

I'm quoting this a second time. Back when I sent my letter to Mike, the reading of the news was one of the complaints. Mike claimed he spends HOURS preparing the news. We all knew that was a lie, but now it has been proven.

Mike, I know you'll see this. Your listeners have to go to the internet to get your show, so it's pretty safe to assume many of them do the same for their news. Excluding some of the Klubbers, I'm willing to bet most of your listeners can read. So, stop reading them the same news they already see!

Part of the benefit of podcasting, is that listeners can listen at their convenience. This means shows sit for hours, or even days, before being heard. News just doesn't fit that model. When they hear you read it, it's already old. Adding in shitty prep just makes it worse.

Please cut the news segment. It is poorly prepared, redundant dead weight.

Marcus really played the "What...how could you possibly handle the discussion of show clips if you don't study everyday...I'm confused" angle hard. Seemed phony. Certa is a good host though. I'm just not sure how "clippable" the show is. These clips are so short that they are pointless. If you listened you heard it, and if you didn't catch that, the clip show isn't gonna light a fire under you.

Go indie, Marcus. Why not?

It's even called News you Might Not Need or something similarly lame, admitting in the very title that the segment is guaranteed crap. The only reason he started doing it was to spite Buzz, and then he got in the LFF rut and can't be bothered to have 5-10 minutes of other content per show. So fucking painful. He's in such a hurry to read all his yahoo news articles that there is no "and comment" at all, sometimes he trails off in mid news blurb and goes on to the next one. Fat Rob's Fail Vault is bad, the news is worse.

I've never been here to Fairfax Underground before but I heard about it on the new Omearacast episode and came to check it out. There seems to be a lot of snarky back & forth between people, but in general the discussion has touched on many of the reasons my enjoyment of the show has gone down A LOT recently. I still like to listen, but it seems Mike is getting meaner and meaner to the "hands that feed him." When I heard the call between Mike & Marcus Certa about promotion I felt like Mike was repeatedly kicking Marcus in the balls. It actually hurt to listen. It seems that Mike just doesn't want to do anything more than what he's already doing to make the show OR the MORE network successful. The show has been feeling stale and old to me for the better part of a year. Mike also seems to be conflicted about the role of listeners and their access to the hosts via social media. He loves attention and praise on social media, but if anyone suggests improvements to the show they get cut out and blocked. It's really sad.

As for the Omearacast episode, as someone who had no idea about this site before the show, I was confused about why Marcus had someone from Fairfax Underground on the show to panel about show clips. The whole thing seemed awkward, and Marcus seemed silly acting like he didn't know what to do with the Fairfax Underground person.

I heard this too and immediately thought that "they clearly have an awareness of the FFXU forum". They don't get hate from here cuase they kind of work outside of the LFF universe. They were around a long time before they joined this band of hacks. They sound so fresh and funny especially when directly compared.

re. Mike's "self-awareness" comment. He may love it in others, but if he thinks HE is, boy, is he wrong. I was thinking of this very subject this weekend while catching up on Maron's WTF podcasts (his TV show, Maron, is very good also, by the way). One of the reasons I have come to appreciate Maron is that he is self-aware. He may be as miserable as Mike (likely much more), possibly more miserable TO others, and with a history of failed relationships and career opportunities (due in part to addiction), but he is able to share and comment on his behavior and life experiences with great humor due in large part to his self-awareness. That is exactly what LFF lacks most; he thinks everyone else is to blame for his life's failures, whether they be small everyday interactions or larger career or personal ones. I realize it's ridiculous to compare LFF with an accomplished comedian and podcaster, but you might get the point.

That picture of Rob is horrifying. Clearly alcoholic and depressed. I remember this time in the show. I used to listen back then when this picture made the rounds. Rob was drinking A LOT, as evident by his red blotchy face. It was a dark time for Rob and a dark time for the show. Maybe around the two-year point if I recall correctly.

In Mike's defense, most people aren't self-aware. If acting like a jerk gets you what you want, why step outside of yourself to see how your actions affect others? Being a 50-something bully who has gotten his way most of the time, Mike has little incentive to self-analyze or change his behavior.

THIS is another remnant from Mike's "I'm still doing a radio show" mindset.

Now, giving credit where it is due, he has gotten better at that stuff as of late, (calling himself a podcaster, changing the opening to say "Podcast and Radio Show" and not vice versa, cross promotion) but he really seems to still think he has a promotional staff...that he is the talent and the sales department should be the ones taking care of that.

Which is why he insists on interns, and looks to Robb to book his appearances instead of just taking the bull by the horns and doing what needs to be done.

Mickey Rourke's character in Iron Man 2 looks better than Rob in that picture.

Agree. Describes my father-in-law to a T, and he's not changing. Only thing that made me comment was LFF saying he loves self-awareness, implying he was accomplished at it himself.

Hi again, guys.
Yes that is precisely how it went down. It was the day after the RELM launch, I waited for word from the Glorious Fat-Baby. He said "We wish them all the best in their new venture and there are no hard feelings, at all." lol, And my post was something like "Congrats to Marc and Buzz and Lowell for forming their new network!" and a link to the announcement page. Instead of scrolling past it, like I do when I read that someone is going on a gun/political rant, he had to react. I am a fan of funny, a fan of entertainment. If he'd not done what he did, I would likely still be a VIPness subscriber, and MANDL All-Access, and DGS Yearly....but..he loves to burn a fucking bridge, doesn't he? All the way to the ground. Then takes a dump on the ashes.

Can we talk about the origin of the "news you may not need" segment? I seem to remember during the Buzz blowups that this segment basically came from the assertion that Buzz "simply read verbatim from news services", and any monkey could do that, so Mike would just do what Buzz did, and thus Buzz wasn't needed.

Is that how it went?

That's only a theory. There's no proof.

Personally, I think the answer is much simpler: Mike didn't want to fill Buzz's segment with something else. He is a slave to their shitty format. So Buzz or no, the news stayed.

And while I wasn't a huge fan of getting news via podcast, Buzz was a better newsreader, clearly did more prep, and at least tried to keep his stories as current as possible by checking on breaking news/updates during the show. The version Mike does is a joke, and makes Mike look foolish.

It could be a combination of many factors....I believe it was partially to "prove Buzz wrong", with a slice of "see, we still do the news" for any Klubbers who complained about enjoying the segment

Anyone else shocked that Barb Moody LOVED the multi-segment trailer saga from Monday?

"I love self-awareness, I do." -Mike O'meara

Yeah, only in others, though.

Something amusing turned up when I was trying to locate an old TMOS topic on FFXU. This from JUNKS.TV, a forum devoted to the Sports Junkies and related topics...Don't know if another thread or forum has replaced it but if not, check out the forum and thread activity as of today below. (This is not meant to bring any discussion of the Junks here, mind you. Just a little diversion).

This is my response to the last several threads on this board. Do not make this forum what fairfaxunderground became with the complete and unadulterated hatred of the Don and Mike and subsequent Mike O'Meara Show podcast. We have the benefit of getting one of the best morning shows left on terrestrial radio with the Sports Junkies. Enjoy it for what it is or do not listen.

To get back on topic…not sure exactly what threads prompted this one but I would say that I'd hate to see this board get to be like the dogmatic one-trick-ponies that co-opted fairfaxunderground. I honestly don't see that happening here, though.

For one thing…most of us are simply too damned lazy!

For another thing…most of us can distinguish the difference between an occasional joan about some aspect of the show we don't like & a pathological hatred for everything & everyone on the show."

[It appears that it worked!]

Clearly, not any monkey can read the news.
