Mike thinks getting a little equity out of a house sale after losing $100k (and most likely considerably more after renovations)is the same as profit. Mike has the business acumen of an over-served fat Irish lush. Not sure why this fact shocks people.

On 2/14/12 show he said he'd lost "63 pounds and change" (how many ounces was that, Spewak?), his goal was to get to 250 by his birthday (3/8) and he thought he'd make it two weeks early. So, he likely began at approx. 325 (who knows if that was his heaviest). On Weight Not site (where they still list him as a success story) he claims he lost 100 pounds. The commercial in which he appeared was shot late 2012 and was at or near his lowest weight IIRC, so he would have gotten down to 225 by then. It looks like he's back up to 325. Conservatively.

Good to get from an authority on July 3 that Oscar with one R has a drinking problem.

Fat Rob asked "Where would she go?" when they were talking about Shannon with one C losing her "scholarship" with Olney's Golden Boy. Where the fuck do you think, you simpering fat Zippy the Pinhead look-alike? ANYWHERE SHE FUCKING WANTS TO. HAVE YOU SEEN HER???? She can definitely bunk with me for a while, and no anal or other chores required. Just normal sex.

Aww. That's adorable. To think Mikey-Wikey got his wittle fweelings hurt when it was pointed out that the book was not going to do the Harry Potter level numbers we were all supposed to pretend it was. If they just stuck to doing the show - no merchandise that no one buys, no meet and greets where they're lucky if a dozen people show up - they could still almost sell the idea that their little podcast experiment is fairly successful. Too bad it's too late. Every new thing they do fails a little harder than the last.

There's no doubt that they are only doing the best they want to do. But surely I can't be the only one who strongly suspects that this is also the best the can do. Some people were put on the planet to be losers. People who, no matter what, their best just sucks. These 3 have found their passion and let's assume it's what they do best. But maybe it's just their purpose in the business to do badly. They are what they need to be to balance out the Carollas and the Sterns. "You too can be just like (successful person) if you just work hard enough." It sounds nice but it isn't reality.

Most successful 50-something's marry 40-ish or late 30-ish women for a reason...because they don't want to start the family thing all over again. Mike was a fucking idiot to think he could issue a moratorium on children with Carla and expect that to last once married. He has no interest in or ability to support another kid and odds are he will have stroked out before his kid reaches high school. Mike is devoid of all common sense, and his life reflects it.

To tell you the truth, I'm starting to get interested in this 'rags to riches' story.

Well, I started listening to D&M long ago. Late 90s??? I can't remember. While I admit some of it was amusing - and there were no podcasts to turn to - I did have the impression that has since been proven totally correct:

--and that was that these two guys were stupid. (C-) like stupid. American University type stupid. Marist College type stupid.

I'd also like to say that it is not my nature to make fun of such people. The only reason I do is because Rob takes those horrible selfies of himself in the bathroom. And, of course, they are terrible human beings who make fun of women who have had their faces torn off by monkeys...... and because Mike makes fun of drunks......and because Oscar says teeeee heeeee.......

More and more Mike is reminding me of Mr. Magoo.

Hell, I am only here to call on them to repent.

Open Mike Death Pool

I'll take a total of 300 copies sold

Again, if you read and believe the book, TMOS is exactly what these broke dick idiots want. Da man isn't harshing them. And I believe there is a (very small) market for a show like this.

I think if the krewe had a "normal" radio back office they'd be doing much better

Their ad rate is basically the same as Adam's and I'd rather have 1M daily downloads hearing my ad than 12k for more or less the same price

This is my prediction:
TMOS will last until LFF can draw on retirement sans penalties
There is no need to change anything the same 12k klub members will DL the show, buy VIP, and click thru AMZ
LPS won't do anything else as long as LFF will keep him around, which of course, he will since LPS does the hard part of the show
Oscar will stay because I'm sure 12k DLs is much more than what BOAD pulls down, until one of his things hits and he can't play radio anymore

If I was getting 40 to 80k for an hour of work a day that I could phone in, litterly, why would I stop?

I'll join the death pool. To be fair there should be a "deadline". Let's make Christmas the deadline, since it's only reasonable to think that there are many people holding on to their hot dollars so's to buy this literal literary fiasco in order to give their friends and fam a holiday gift to remember.
I say by Cristmas, 249. So I go lower jhop. 300 just seems too much.

BTW, no wonder Mike was pandering for people to buy 10 copies...he wasn't kidding. ...

If you think TMOS is still pulling 12k DLs/show you are sadly mistaken.

You think all those 12k are still on board 5 years in with this level of quality? You honestly think it ever grew past the 12k (advertised) peak? No chance. And I for one can personally guarantee you it's maximum is 11,999.

This is my problem. There doesn't appear to be anything of interest in the book. I think there is probably a fascinating business story here. He'll, they created a sustaining and likely sustainable broadcasting business out of a living room in Manassas. They witnessed the end of guy talk radio. That's a whole, interesting story that isn't told interestingly.

It's 98% recitation of events and happenings that listeners should already know about. Though I do have a working theory that TMOS fanatics have virtually no memory of what happened on the show previously.

Basically.
Then Oscar went about "auditioning" his "co-host" for the rest of the episode...with Mike and Robb commenting on them like sports announcers.

Because that is EXACTLY what a pilot episode of a show should be, a laser focus on a one time competition that has nothing to do with how the show would run from there on out,

Add on top of that, two guys shoehorned into that one-time competition who would have no conceivable role in the show going forward.

And while Mike can do a lot with his voice, but his acting chops are meant for someone on the radio...he looked completely unnatural, like he was in a bad community theater play at the top of the episode...

For those who haven't seen it, Mike's tire commercial 1987, witness acting.

Mike's career has started to resemble the classic child actor life. He spent the first couple decades with everyone kissing his ass just because after a few solo radio jobs, he got hooked up with the right guy. In this case the right guy was also both his parents and agent. Don did all the show prep, Don's agent took Mike on as well and made sure they got good contracts, Mike showed up at the last minute, left as early as possible and got told how wonderful he was for it.
Then, since his parents never taught him anything about managing money, He has wasted it on his multiple ventures and investments. They also forgot to teach him basic manners, which alienates any normal person that has normal contact with him. Sure it's easy to appear nice when everyone who shows up is there to worship you, but he even fails at that sometimes.
So now he has a show he does his way, refusing to even give the few paying customers the things they want, instead catering to the audience of his last grasp on radio, KCJJ.

He's already had the substance problems and the loss of great amounts of money, so what's left?

Yes an article from a website that doesn't even recognize Mike O'Meara. It shouldn't be that hard for such a dedicated audience. Maybe if they each bought 20 books instead of the 10 Mike wants.

Mike's whole pitch to advertisers is that the podcast audience is more loyal and more likely to buy their product. Yet his own fans aren't buying his book...even though they can do it from the comfort of their home for $10. Seriously, how likely is it these people are driving to the Oakton Wine shop or calling up Oncor? Not fucking likely.

I haven't seen a good defense of Cumia yet. I doubt that I will see one.

For those that want to say that he made some "good points", if he had made those points without the crazy old-timey bigoted comments nothing would've happened to him. He's done enough social commentary on his show without having an issue like this. He sounded like a Euroleague soccer fan.

Agreed. Since Obama got elected in 2008 Cumia has been careening toward this moment. The result was a show that was less and less entertaining (particularly when no guests were in studio to distract the ranting). In the aftermath, he's already tweeted a photo of himself with a black friend. I'll bet my house that before this is over, he'll invoke the name of Patrice O'Neal and say Patrice was a close friend of his and then say "so how can I be a racist?"

Good, thoughtful piece on the matter...

It's the fact that everyone flipped shit about WORDS. For fuck's sake, he had just been assaulted. Which everyone's forgot about that part, by the way. The only concession I will make is that twitter was a terrible place to express himself. But he HAD to know that.

Either way, I'm scared of a world where everyone gets in such a furor of what somebody SAYS that it requires them to be fired. I fully support Anthony. If he goes podcast, I'll be a loyal subscriber. I am curious to see what Opie and Jimmy will do.

That's a bullshit, hide the ball argument. Especially considering the distinction between the aggressive content that Anthony provided on the air (with no problems), and the nature of his comments on Twitter. If he had gotten fired for "N***** or a Nazi" maybe there'd be a better argument.

It just isn't a stretch to find his "words" unacceptable and worthy of some sort of punishment by those who have a stake in it. In this case, that's Sirius/XM. This ain't some trumped up, feminist, liberal, leap to judgment.

It shouldn't matter whether you find a kernel of truth in his comments.

Cumia is a fucking idiot. It's not like guys in his industry (Imus, for one) haven't been fired for saying less. Censorship is the government stepping in and punishing you if it doesn't like what you say. It's not censorship when an employer fires you because it doesn't want to be associated with something you have said.

Yes it DOES matter. We're so fucking worried about being offended or offending someone in this fucking country. Get over it. Anthony spoke truths as he sees them but because people didn't like the package they were delivered in, all hell breaks loose.

It's only going to get worse. Forget about expressing yourself - the minute someone finds offense in your words (AND THEY WILL), you're fucked.

And people are happy to see our society go this way. It blows my fucking mind.

We shall agree to disagree then. I see a real problem coming where there will be societal laws that mandate what is ok and not ok to say, and that line will blur more and more until you have to worry about every little thing you say because someone will report you to HR. It's already begun.

The fact that I'm an O&A fan probably has a lot to do with the fact that this is where I'm drawing the line in the sand. But damn it, it has to start somewhere. We have to push back or we will truly lose the freedom to be offended.

Our biggest threat isn't the government repealing the First Amendment. It's far more likely that our society will repeal it for us.

Why is everyone dancing around it? If you're going to the "it's just words" or "freedom of expression" well to defend statements as extreme as these, you've got some sort of weird bigot thing going on yourself.

Back to TMOS. Hopefully it's water under the bridge by time they get back. I hate hearing Robb play the pious role in race discussions.

If being a bigot means that I think anyone can say what they feel and not have to worry about their livelihood being destroyed as a result, then so be it.

I'm not defending the content of his tweets. I'm defending his right to speak his mind without getting his job ripped away from him. I'm defending his right to offend other people.

So weird thing...Marc & Lowell have been giving away free bonus shows during their vacation. One of them, featuring their always funny stoner buddy and a random woman I don't know, was really funny. Like, damn good. For some reason they only bring in the co-hosts for bonus shows. They should reconsider. They might be on the cusp of having a good show.

Of course, I was looking forward to the next free bonus show. It was just MandL detailing Marc's child being born. Womp Womp.

A young Harlan Ellison went to work at Disney studios. 1st day he met some writers he knew in the commissary and went on to suggest they do a porn flick with Mickey & Minnie.

Unknown to him upper staffers were there too including Roy Disney.
When Harlan went back to his office his secretary was gone and a pink slip on his desk.

IF things went down as Anthony said, that nigger cunt bitch deserved a beatdown. If you're out in public, expect to be photographed. Fact of life. Get with the program, Jemima.

The takeaway is "responsible gun owner." He didn't fucking shoot her. As he points out, maybe someone of a dusky hue will take care of that.

I don't know who this Anthony is, but from the sound of the story he must be a little bitch. A typical DJ big mouth. Apparently, this was obvious to the black dudes (and girl) who checked him out. I don't like DJs in general, and he sounds typical. He is used to being protected by his mic and entitlement. Well, out in the open he isn't so tough or amusing.

This story is more about being a pussy and getting bitch slapped by a girl. It's also a story about a stupid person. If you want to be free, WORK FOR YOURSELF. There is no freedom working for the Man and there never was any.
