What truly puzzles me about the Shannon bit are 2 things...Robbbbb never worked with him and what is his deal with Lifesavers? Did he do a commercial? and if so, why have we not heard it? They run that bit into the ground without ever explaining Shannon's relationship to Lifesavers

In the days following 9/11 radio stations did not play ads, and when they did start the Scott Shannon life savers was one of the first. It had that strange cadence that they mimic. Only reason i listen any more is to hopefully hear Oscar kick them out of his studio, or start to charge them to use his studio after he quits.

It finally occurred to me why Klubbers and FFUers are both attracted to TMOS despite the large disparity between their respective IQ levels (which can often be a source of friction between groups of this nature).

Let me channel my inner Jerry Seinfeld and attempt to explain how TMOS humor works (Klubbers may need to revisit this explanation a few times before it sinks in).

Most jokes are comprised of a setup and a punchline. The best punchlines deviate from the setup narratives in a surprising but clever manner. The intelligent audience finds humor In the fact that the joke teller has resolved the setup narrative with an ending that is both logically consistent and unexpected. Less intelligent audiences are more comfortable with simple non sequiturs. Compare "Take my wife - Please!" with "Take my wife. [fart sound]"

The TMOS Krewe are idiots savants (that's the preferred plural spelling; I looked it up) when it comes to creating brilliant setups. They are natural straight men (only in a comedic sense; their sexual orientations are a separate but disturbing topic for a later date). Like Russian nesting dolls, there are often setups within setups, many created unintentionally.

Where the Krewe fails miserably is when they attempt to generate corresponding punchlines.

[At this point in the discussion, light bulbs are clicking on above the heads of most FFUers; Klubbers, bear with me a few more sentences.]

To compensate for the poor punchlines, the Krewe assists the Klubbers in identifying the "humor" by providing their very own laugh tracks. They also repeat the punchline, ad nauseum, so that audience members can react to this humor ahead of the laugh tracks; the laugh track in essence provides positive reinforcement that the Klubber successfully identified the humor. As a result, Klubbers "get it" ("it" being arbitrarily defined humor) and can feel good about themselves.

OTOH, FFUers gravitate to TMOS for the setups, then come to this site to create their own punchlines or to enjoy the fruits of their peers' labors. This is where the true alchemy occurs, turning the results of fecal urgency into "Gold, Jerry! Gold!"

Unfortunately for the Klubbers, this site does NOT include a laugh track; hence, all the confusion and stress. Maybe if FFUers came up with an appropriate emoticon for laughter, and started using it, we could all just get along and appreciate this site.

In summary, for the FFUers, we are the yin to Mike's yang. We are the Joker to his Batman. He NEEDS us on that wall. We complete him.

For the Klubbers, you are content simply enjoying Mike's yang. He had you at "essadee."

The TMOS punchlines are the worst. Robb's grasping at straws, "I must say something, anything" lines compete against Mike's setup-looong pause while he thinks-weak punchlines. Robb thinks that if it's irreverent or a callback

They rarely make me genuinely laugh the way that "funny" podcast hosts do. Bad lines. They are trying to be funny, and are or were talented, so they wander into good moments. But their lack of taste and effort is what kills the funny.

The most interesting show happens and omearacast is a no go this week. What a coincidence!
