Robb sees himself in Jibril. Both lonely boys from broken homes taken under the wing of strange neighbor men.

Going on my 3 month chip so admittedly I'm not listening but I can tell when the show is really lame, this thread slows down because they're not delivering the suck! I think Mike gets paranoid and doesn't go with decent bits because he knows we'll excoriate him here. So he just goes about his shitty life of golf drink and zits hoping that will entertain. He realizes we have slim pickings if he doesn't try too hard. Maybe he's not so dumb after all...

Was just about to say this.

Again, more proof that Rob is a spineless, hack. He knows of this tradition. The kid next door that they shipped to Africa to get away from him used to call him Mr Rob. He talked about it on the show and how it's a southern thing.

Instead of correcting Mike and explaining that he's freaking out on someone for using common English in the state he lives, he just sat there.

I also found it pretty ironic that he's complaining about the foreigner using his first name after Mr, when it's really mike being the stupid foreigner and not realizing it's common lingo where he lives now. Mike is more of a foreigner than the lady with the accent.

I BET he sees himself IN Jibril. Every night when he goes to sleep with one hand free. Or during the day when everyone's gone to school or.... wait for it America....WORK.

I had high hopes for Oscar's story about getting into some sort of argument with his mother. Dashed, as the story was not interesting and just petered off.

Alright, who made the Mike O'Meara call to Don's voicemail today??? They really hit all the high points. Congratulations, actually left Don as speechless as he can be. He must have said "I'm pretty sure that's not Mike" at least three times in a row.

It'll probably be Friday, DGS was posted as video today so I'll have to pull the audio, then cut it out. I might have time tomorrow, but basically it was Mike talking about all the mistakes and the downhill slide of his life since the end of D&M

That must be the hours of show prep that they talk about. They are totally out of interesting things to talk about and now they make up bullshit to fit more ads in so they can kill time.

Any chance "company money" is helping to pay his tuition? Like how generous Mike was to give Robb a birthday bonus (and it sounded like they just forgave some bill he had to repay the podcast) that Oscar pointed out was a third Robb's money anyway.

Hey there...

So I have an actual broadcasting/radio/podcasting question.

Most other podcasts I listen to make a HUGE deal about not playing music because they don't have the copyright/broadcast rights/whatever.

Even on Nerdist a few weeks ago, Hardwick was freaking out because Jonah was playing music and threatening to do it for more than like 4 seconds.

Yet TMOS plays nearly entire songs on their commercial "breaks" and there are often songs in the Audio Vault.

What's the difference?

It's like deja vu, Tuesday there were two different doctor stories mentioned.

LFF: "They were diggin' at me pretty good, on my upper thigh."
"After he was doing all this digging, excruciating pain."
...
"Later in the show, I will have a full medical update for you. You're going to like this, there is one particular physician that I have down here who I have been in consult with for a long time. And she gave it to me yesterday like I've never had it before. And I'll share that with you, and I think I'm sharing that with you because I need all the pressure I can get. That's the way I'm looking at it, that's the way it's going to be. Other than that, for the guy who was digging at me and neglected to mention that perhaps pain medication would be ok, he was fine, I just wish I had gotten that heads up."

Then on Wednesday,

LFF: "It's just me, on my own, with my diet food, with my 10 calorie bread. And incidentally, just ahh you know on day two of this new method of eating that I'm enjoying right now, let me say this, let me see, 10 calorie bread tastes like every bite. Every single bite - what is this? "
(Blob(b) derails the conversation with some old broadway shit, then straight into the Mail Bag.)

There is no difference.

You have to get the rights to play the music regardless.

Most radio stations have a contract with BMI or ASCAP or ... (aka a trade group the represents musicians). The radio station license the music from the trade group and this is one of the main reasons they have commercials.

The trade groups exist to do collective negotiations. So, rather than attempt to negotiate with KISS or Aqua or ... the bands (song writer) enters into an agreement with a big organization and that org cuts deals with movies, TV, radio stations, commercials, etc...

Various courts have rules about how much of a song you need to play before you have to pay. The "30 second rule" is kind of a gentleman's agreement, but if the song writer wants to push the issue, any amount of time that makes the music recognizable equals license.

Radio "gets away" with it because they have this big blanket license with the groups representing the bands / song writers / publishers and it is kind of a historic thing.

TMOS likely doesn't have that agreement and the LFF just remembers his old radio days and likely doesn't see the connection.

So, yes TMOS should be paying the bands that created the music they play

Jesus fuck. There really IS nothing about which you do not know nothing. Radio stations have commercials because aside from brokered programming it's the ONLY way they make money.

Yes they use the money from commercials to pay for liscensing, but also for payroll, PROFESSOR, and electricity bills.

Well that is true too.

We should report them. Are they still using that shitty rockabilly song as the opening that the LFF spent an ENTIRE FUCKING SHOW talking about how pumped he was that he was stealing some band's music?

So LFF got ordered by his doc to lose weight or die? Huh. Carla better have a custom coffin maker take some measurements.

This. I don't have to pay for music rights when I play my iPhone's tunes on my back deck, either, when I have people over. The failcast isn't even a pimple on a pimple on the music industry's ass.

I haven't listened in a long time -- has it been established that LFF is TFF (too fucking fat) for a hip replacement? Is he also too fat for the band, or a stomach staple? I think we've established that Weight-Not was . . . temporary, at best. If your doctor says, "Lose weight or you will die," and you've got a baby . . . how damn stupid do you have to be?

Absolutely. I've thought that for a while. And at the end he adds, "I'll be here all week". More like "I will read the Yahoo news all week"!

Jesus. Listening to yesterday's show as a couple of posters have already pointed out they admit to faking letters that mention sponsors. then Mike wastes 10 minutes and blows his top because he can't be bothered to do the very minimum prep or pre-read any of the letters.

Robb; "Proof read your letters before submitting them to the mail bag".

Hey Robb, have Mike stop reading them. Embarrassing.

PS-No way that Florida Man letter is real.

Mike's hours of show prep include the decay and death of his body.

The guy had a fucking heart attack and then claimed his heart was fine. Of all the doctors who told him to knock this shit off over the years, how did one finally get through? Maybe she slapped the fucking Big Mac out of his hands long enough to make him listen.

The "Am I right?" is the worst bit. Followed closely by "something, something". How can they not be burning up the iTunes podcast charts with stellar lines like those??

Well, it took, what?, two shows to burn out Salad Fingers? And that isn't even worth burning out in the first place. I haven't watched all the episodes, and won't, but the first one was mildly interesting, just like when my kids showed me Charlie the unicorn years ago.

And fucking dramam queen Headdd getting all quivery over the voice. Fuck you.

I am looking forward to Blobb uploading the call to Don. Thanks for doing that. I just gave up my subscription, because I got tired of feeling like I needed to chase the 3 hours every day. If Don was to trim it back some, I'd be back with him.

It's a funny dilemma to have; I'm probably 6 weeks behind. He needs to go on a 2-week vacation.

I think Fatt Blob(b) reacting the way he did is based on misinterpreting where LFF was going with his initial pitch of Salad Fingers. LFF was originally acting like it was way too sick, dark, disturbing and twisted to watch, which made Blobbay think it was a one-off and the overreacting was what LFF was going for. Since Blob(b) would never admit to being a sycophant only interested in pleasing LFF, he had to stick with the bit and his original stance. To reiterate, TMOS found something that was popular online in 2004 and is running it into the ground.

OK just so everyone knows, this sounds nothing like Mike, but the content is all there. Anyone who is at all familiar with Don knows he can hardly go 10 seconds without speaking during a voicemail call, so this is especially unusual because he barely says anything other than he doesn't think it's actually Mike.

He also said " a word to all the african americans out there. You have to do the same god damn thing!"

Now bear in mind that on this same show Oscar speculated Jibril had gone back to Tunisia to practice spear throwing.

Thanks, Bubby. Since Don has a bunch of regular callers, and some, like this guy, who say they're someone and sound nothing like them, I wonder if he'll become a regular (sorry. that's some nasty sentence structure).

Kind of sounded like Don might've cut the call off early, though.

As far as I can tell, with all the transparency, LFF is queued up for two surgeries: hip replacement and some sort of colon modification. He has explicitly said he needs to lose weight before the gut surgery. Two pounds down though! Which is ironically the same weight loss LFF experiences every time he takes a dump. To quote LFF: "10 calorie bread tastes like every bite. Every single bite" Stroke victim says what?

After 55 years and innumerable trips to the doctor it's finally dawned on Mike that if you treat your body like shit, it will go to hell. Not that he's actually going to do anything about it, mind you. You would have thought the heart attack scare would have been a wake up call...but he answered that call with a pork chop. The real question is what will end first; the podcast, the marriage or Mike.

I'm probably 40 pounds overweight; I'm 6'3", so I look OK, but I'm heavier than I should be. My blood pressure and cholesterol and blood numbers are fine. I keep an eye on my weight so it doesn't get any worse. I exercise. I certainly eat more than I should. But if my doctor ever said, "If you don't lose 50 pounds, you're going to die," I would take major league action. I just don't know how you can be told, "Hey, you're too fat for a hip replacement," and not take that real seriously.

not sure who said it but they do deserve credit. Not only is Mike's news just ripped off Yahoo, He IS reading the comments section as "kickers". On Thursdays show he finishes the last story and says, "here it is" it says" here" "one more" as he mumbles along and clearly just reads the comments! I know Buzz was a load and I'm sure "news you may not need" is an appropriate jab at news guys who read internet bullet-points. Mike has gave up the work that comes with digging up a funny final story. Then decided instead of a good joke he can paste any joke on the end. Now he just reads the comments.

What the fuck am I supposed to do with Don's show now that it's an mp4 file? I think the in studio cameras are cool if you want to watch live, but there really ought to be an audio-only download. His audience appears to be dedicated, but man, does he make the show difficult to get to if you just want to download it to a phone or ipod. I might consider letting it go if this is the case. I appreciate how into the product he seems to be, but doesn't quite get it all the way.
