The broadcast standards haven't really lightened up.
You can draw various conclusions from that, Colin's son is a jerk, the USG wants to fine broadcasters to "tax" them, etc
But, the fact of the matter is everything is still defcon 1 to people on the public airwaves.
So, the LFF, Don, et al aren't really "playing a card" as the rules changed a decade ago and they haven't changed back.
